Recently, we had a crew compete in the Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigades Association 2026 Road Crash Rescue (RCR) Challenge in Hornby, putting our skills, teamwork and problem-solving to the test.
This competition involves responding to lifelike crash scenarios, including getting access to patients, extraction, treating patients and putting our medical skills to the test. These scenarios are a great test of our skills, and they’re a vital part of making sure we’re ready when it matters most.
Our team - coached by Martin Thornley and consisting of Peter Helps (Lead), George Bright, Sam Wootton, Brent Wood, Martin Pugh and Lollie Stallard-Leen won the Time Critical Scenario and placed fourth overall - a fantastic result for their first time competing together 👏
A massive thank you to everyone involved in organising and running the event - including the patients.
Next up, the team will be travelling to Feilding to compete in the National RCR Challenge from 11-13 June. Join us in wishing them the best of luck! 💪
