The social worker (and friends) breakfast hui is a space to share meaningful kōrero about the realities, challenges, and possibilities shaping our mahi and our collective wellbeing.

We meet on the last Tuesday of each month,
kindly hosted at RAPHS (Rotorua Area Primary Health Service) upstairs at 1165 Tutanekai Street. Everyone welcome.

A practice I return to each year is choosing a word, an intention, for the year ahead.

This year, fitting with the flight of a bird, the word is RISE.

Restore — honouring wellbeing
Invest — choosing consciously where energy goes
Sustain — nourishment over depletion
Embody — honouring who we are, not just what we produce

At Bellbird, 2026 continues to be about community, authentic connection, and uplifting our ‘heart work’ in ways that are sustainable for our people and our workforce.

I’m looking forward to sharing space in 2026, in conversation, in community, and in moments that help us rise together.

One of our favourite parts of the Bellbird Symposium each year is slipping a set of Carly Shorter's conversation cards into every delegate’s goody bag.

There’s something special about watching these cards spark connection across the room. Whether it’s two people chatting over coffee or a group of 200 diving into deep kōrero, these cards never fail to get the magic flowing.

They’ve become an absolute staple in our conference start-up kit, helping to break the ice, warm the room, and set the tone for authentic, meaningful conversations. Here’s to the small tools that create big connections. 💛
