Our thoughts are with whānau in Te Tairawhiti and Te Matau-a-Maui rohe who have been impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. 💛

There’s lots of silt in the air at the moment and it’s important to keep yourself and your whānau safe when you’re out and about.

🚶‍♀️Avoid exercising in the dust.
🚗 Reduce vehicle numbers and speed over silt-laden areas.
😷 Wear suitable respiratory protection if exposure to dust cannot be avoided. Wearing a fitted P2 mask or N95 mask will help keep you and your whānau protected.
👐 Anyone who encounters silt should immediately wash their hands and/or use hand sanitiser.

If you need any health advice or support, contact the Healthline 0800 611 116 or your local health provider.

People helping to remove silt from communities hit by Cyclone Gabrielle are being warned it is a health risk and they should wear masks.

A new COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine will be available in Aotearoa from 1 April.

The bivalent vaccine is replacing the existing booster and will be available for everyone over the age of 30 who has completed their first two doses of the vaccine, as long as it’s been at least 6 months since their last booster or since testing positive for COVID.

It will also be available to people at increased risk of severe illness from COVID.

The vaccine is designed to protect against the first strain of coronavirus as well as the Omicron strains which are causing the most COVID infections in New Zealand now.

Learn more about the vaccine here http://bit.ly/3xQNJnK

Te Arawa COVID-19 Response

Te Arawa whānau are famous for our manaakitanga, but for now we need to demonstrate our care for each other in a different way. We have been called upon to look after our kaumātua, whānau who are māuiui and other people who may be vulnerable to this new coronavirus.

It is not natural or normal for our people to be isolated from one another, or to be prevented from showing physical support or aroha.

But this is not a natural or normal situation, and our nationwide efforts to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on Aotearoa and our people will take an extraordinary effort from all of us.

Marae, hapu and organisations across Te Arawa are mobilising to help support our people and community during this time. We’re combining resources, information and contact details to try to ensure no-one falls through the gaps and all our people have the help and support they need.
