Today, on World Indigenous Day, we celebrate the strength, knowledge and living traditions of Indigenous peoples around the world.

At Te Puia, every day is an opportunity to share the stories, values and traditions of te ao Māori with the manuhiri who walk through our gates. Through pōhiri, whakairo, raranga, kapa haka, hāngī, guiding and the work of the New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute, we invite visitors to experience a culture that is living, evolving and deeply connected to this place.

Just as we are proud to share our culture, we value the opportunity to learn about the cultures our manuhiri bring with them. Every conversation, every shared story and every connection reminds us that while our traditions are unique, the desire to honour our ancestors and pass knowledge on to future generations is something we all have in common.

Today, we celebrate Indigenous cultures everywhere, and the shared understanding that grows when we take the time to listen, learn and connect.
