Maungaturoto is a small rural Northland town, often referred to as the 'Heart of Kaipara', and one man has been bringing that heart to our frontline for 50 years 💛

Stephen followed in the footsteps of his father (who did over 50 years of service also) to become an ambulance officer during the days of Dodge ambulances in 1975.

Since then, Stephen has made an immeasurable impact to countless lives on the road and as the local station manager. He is credited by his peers for the contemporary service that we offer to the community today 🚑

Stephen has also made meaningful differences overseas, helping communities in need throughout India, South Africa, Mexico, and Vanuatu.

There aren't enough words to describe how much of a legend he is.

Thank you Stephen for your kindness and commitment to serving the Kaipara area and beyond 👏

We also want to say a big thank you to the families of our volunteers, because without their support our people couldn't help your people 🚑

It's National Volunteer Week 🎉

We have around 8,000 volunteers at St John and we're so excited to share the aroha this week, celebrating them and the incredible work they do 💛

We are holding a joint training exercise with our friends from Waipu Volunteer Fire Brigade and Ruakaka Volunteer Fire Brigade.
