It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our dear friend, colleague and long-standing member of the Kaipara Kumara whānau, Jill Jenyns.

Jill dedicated an incredible 54 years of continuous service to our business, and her hard work, kindness, dedication and humour touched so many people throughout the years. Jill was not only a valued employee, but a very special friend to our family.

We are incredibly grateful for everything Jill gave to our business and for the many memories, laughs and friendships she leaves behind.

Rest peacefully Jill 💛 You will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the Kaipara Kumara whānau.

Happy Birthday Deno 🎂

To celebrate, we thought we’d put him in the hot seat and ask him a few questions…

How long have you been part of the team here at Kaipara Kumara?
33 years after leaving high school.

What’s changed the most since you first started working here?
The people and all of the equipment, like the wash room and grading tables.

What’s your favourite part about working in the kūmara industry?
The people, we are one big family here at Kaipara Kumara.

After all these years, what’s one thing you know about kūmara that most people probably don’t?
You can eat orange kūmara raw! It’s very nice.

Who has been the funniest or most memorable person you have worked with?
My side kick Rangi, we work in the washroom together. He keeps me on my toes!

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice when you first started here, what would it be?
Never give up, and achieve your goals.

Hope you had a great day Deno! 🫶🏼 we appreciate your mahi!

Does kūmara need to be peeled before cooking?

NOPE!

The skin is completely edible, and leaving it on can save you time - just give your kūmara a good scrub before cooking.

Of course, whether you peel it or not is completely up to you!

Do you peel or no peel? 👇

The baby kūmara plants at the Kaipara Kumara greenhouse are the some of the fore bearers of 2029 and 2030 commercial kūmara crop.

It takes a couple of seasons in the the fields bulking up enough kūmara propagating material to get the numbers required for a commercial crop 🍠

Flashback Friday - Throwing it back to April when some of the Woolworths team came to visit us here in Kaipara! 👋

We took the team out to visit Doug and his kūmara farm in Dargaville, giving them a chance to see a little bit of what goes on behind the scenes 🌱

It was a great day out on the farm, sharing stories and getting our hands amongst the kūmara!
