Over the past 18 months, our volunteers have used a new w**d management app to systematically map the w**d issues across the islands.
Now the priority is finding the money to get our volunteer teams out there to deal to these w**ds - with 477 hectares of land across 5 islands to manage, this is no small task and these funds would make a big difference!
Round 5 of our Here for Russell campaign has begun!
This month’s community groups are:
📻 Kororāreka Russell Football Club – Our football club has grown significantly in recent years, and we are proud to provide a place where local children can learn new skills, build friendships, stay active, and develop confidence through sport.
If successful, a portion of the funding would help offset travel costs for our teams. As a rural club, travel can be a significant expense for families, and we want to do everything we can to ensure every child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of financial circumstances.
The remaining funding would go towards our annual prizegiving. With more players than ever before, we need additional trophies and awards to recognise the hard work, sportsmanship, improvement, and commitment shown by our young footballers throughout the season.
Every token placed in support of our club is an investment in local children, local families, and grassroots sport in our community.

🌿 Project Island Song – With the pest animals gone from the islands, the persistent pest plants are the main thing holding back the natural regeneration of the bush.

If we were successful, 4 Square’s Community Sponsorship would enable us to get our w**dbusting volunteers out to the islands, and buy new battery-powered tools to make them even more efficient.

🤝 Te Rōpū Manaakitanga o te Kura o Kororāreka – Our Manaakitanga Rōpū is working alongside our school to create an incredible opportunity for our tamariki and wider school community. So many of our children — and even some of our parents — have never experienced the Hole in the Rock, despite it being such a significant landmark right here in our own backyard.
With the $2,500 prize, we would take our whole school on a trip to the Hole in the Rock, creating lasting memories while helping our tamariki connect with, learn about and feel proud of the whenua they call home.
