Take care when dealing with Ashes 🔥 this Winter ❄️

Yesterday Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a water tank on fire! 💧

How can that happen?

The homeowner had some ashes from their fireplace; they had waited a few days for them to cool before disposing of them in their compost bin next to the tank. Unfortunately a few days was not long enough!

🔥Hot tip: Ashes can take up 5 days to cool completely! We recommend hot ashes are emptied into a metal bin, water is poured over them and they are left to cool completely for 5 days.

As we head into 1 June Gypsy Day, we welcome farming families arriving in our community and wish those departing all the very best on their next chapter. Safe travels to everyone making the move!

🚜 🚛 🐄

With farm stock, equipment and people movements increasing, and the King’s Birthday long weekend bringing more traffic to our roads, we’re asking everyone to please take extra care:

✅ Be patient around stock movements and farm vehicles
✅ Slow down on rural roads
✅ Allow extra time for your journeys
✅ Keep a safe following distance

A little patience goes a long way in keeping everyone safe during this busy time.

Let’s look out for each other and make it a safe and happy weekend for all.

🚒 Recent Training Night 🚒

A recent training focused on building practical skills and a bit of scenario problem-solving.

Our crews kicked things off with hose running drills, working on getting lines out quickly and efficiently while maintaining good control and communication under pressure. These drills are a great way to build confidence and sharpen those fundamentals that make a real difference on the fireground.

We then moved onto using a ground monitor. A ground monitor is like a stand-mounted nozzle (branch) that sits securely on the ground, holds the hose in place and delivers a high-flow stream of water.

To finish the night, some of our team took on a bit of a challenge: building their own ground monitor using alternative equipment carried on the truck. This was all about adaptability and thinking on your feet – making the most of what you have when the ideal equipment maybe isn’t available.

A great night of hands-on learning, teamwork, and innovation!

🔥 International Firefighters’ Day – 4 May 🔥

Today we recognise International Firefighters’ Day, a time to honour firefighters everywhere who put service above self — both here at home, and across the world.

For our Tahuna Volunteer Fire Brigade, this day is about acknowledging the commitment of our volunteers who drop what they’re doing, day or night, to protect lives, property, and our rural community. Whether it’s fires, rescues, medical assists, storms, or motor vehicle crashes, our crew stands ready — often balancing family life and full‑time work alongside their service.

We also remember firefighters who have been injured or lost their lives in the line of duty.

To our firefighters past and present: thank you for your courage, dedication, and teamwork.

To our families, employers, and community who support us behind the scenes: we couldn’t do this without you.

If you see a firefighter today, take a moment to say thanks — it means more than you might think. ❤️🚒

Lest we forget ❤️

This morning, as the sun rose, our volunteer fire brigade was honoured to hold our annual ANZAC Day dawn service. In the quiet of first light, we came together as a community to remember and reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and service of all who have worn the uniform in the defence of others.

ANZAC Day reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy were hard won, and that service above self comes at a great cost. As volunteers, we are proud to stand in remembrance, carrying forward the spirit of duty, mateship, and resilience shown by those who served before us.

Thank you to everyone who attended, who helped organise the service, and who paused this morning to remember.

We will remember them ❤️

A big thank you to our Local Lions Clubs!

We were delighted to take our new First Response Ute along to meet with the Tahuna Lions and Morrinsville Lions groups recently, to share the completed project that they each so generously supported.

Their contribution has helped make this vital resource a reality for our brigade and the wider community we serve. The Lions’ ongoing support over many years has made a real difference, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued commitment to local emergency services.

Thank you once again to both clubs for always being there for us — we’re proud to have you alongside us 🚒👏

Great to have support like this behind our Brigade ❤️

Great to have support like this behind our Brigade ❤️

Megan Potter living into our Community Value. 👫

We’re proud of team members who step up for their communities, and recently, Megan Potter has done just that.

Megan played a key behind-the-scenes role in bringing the Tahuna Volunteer Fire Brigade’s new first response 4WD Ute to life - a major milestone for the brigade and the rural community it serves. From coordination and communication through to grant applications and big fundraising efforts, Megan’s commitment, determination and hours and hours of organisation were critical to the project’s success.

The new 2026 Mitsubishi Triton will significantly improve the brigade’s ability to respond quickly and safely to medical emergencies and off-road incidents across Tahuna and surrounding district, and ultimately, help save lives.

We’re proud of Megan and the dedication she (and many of our team members) show beyond the office.

This is community in action, and a perfect reflection of the values we hold at CooperAitken.
