PUBLIC NOTICE – CYCLONE PREPAREDNESS AND SAFETY

The Taneatua Fire Brigade is actively monitoring the situation as the approaching cyclone develops. We urge all residents to take this threat seriously and prepare accordingly.

If you feel that you or your property are in immediate danger, please call 111 and ask for assistance.

During the Cyclone:
• Remain indoors and stay well clear of windows and doors.
• Do not attempt to walk, swim, or drive through floodwaters.
• Follow all instructions issued by Emergency Services.

Preparation:
• Ensure you have essential supplies ready, including food, water, medications, and emergency items.
• Be prepared in case you need to evacuate or self-evacuate at short notice.

Please note, the Taneatua Fire Brigade is not an official evacuation centre. However, if you have nowhere else to go, we will do our best to assist you.

Your safety is our priority. Please look after yourselves, your families, and check on your neighbours where possible.

Update 3pm:
The broken pipe in Tāneatua has now been repaired. The water truck is parked outside Tāneatua School until around 5pm for anyone who needs to fill their own containers. While water didn’t fully run out, some residents may have noticed very low pressure. Pressure should start improving by this evening, with the reservoir continuing to refill overnight and expected to be around 60 percent by morning. Some homes may notice cloudy water due to air in the pipes – it’s safe to drink and will clear if left to sit. If you need help, call Customer Services on 07 306 0500. Thank you for your patience while we sort this important mahi.

Update 1.30pm:
The water tanker is on its way and will park outside Tāneatua School for anyone who needs water to take back home. BYO containers or bucket to fill up with water. Ngā mihi.

⚠💦📍 Water outage - Tāneatua township, 12.30pm Monday:

Kia ora Tāneatua whānau – there's been a water mains break at the Tāneatua water reservoir, where all the township’s water is stored.

👷🏽 Our team are urgently working to fix the issue. However, Tāneatua will likely be without water until repairs are completed. This means your loos won't flush, and you won't have fresh drinking water for a while

We're hoping to have this all sorted today, but at this stage we don’t have a confirmed timeframe.

We're also looking into a water tanker option in the meantime, where you’ll be able to fill your own water containers.
