Tapawera Area School

Tapawera Area School Tapawera Area School is a state school catering for the needs of Year 1-13 students in the wider Tap

Tapawera Area School started existence as a primary school at a time when secondary students travelled to Nelson by train for their secondary schooling. The closure of the rail line cemented a need for local secondary education. This was initially provided through Tapawera District High School. Later a number of primary schools were closed and amalgamated to form Tapawera Area School.

Hi All
Whilst the extension of Level 4 until Friday wasn’t what I hoped for, it was what I expected.

The next phase is likely to be a shift to Level 3 which allows children of Essential Workers to attend school in small groups.
To that end could all Essential Workers please email me directly with the names of students needing to attend school: [email protected]
I anticipate that we will move to Level 3 next week.
I hope that we move to Level 2, but doubt this based upon past experiences.

Staff have prepared a variety of materials for students and they are sitting at school waiting to be collected.
I will return to school once more on Wednesday afternoon 25 August to enable families to collect materials.

I note that materials are set aside for Junior classes, Senior Hard Tech, Senior Maths to name a few.

Take care
Kelvin

Dear Parents & Whanau,
To enable staff to provide best possible resources to families, please complete the online Google Form above.

The data will be used to assist us to distribute school laptops etc to families on Monday and Tuesday.
If you have a device that will ‘do the job’ then please work with that as we may not be able to meet all needs.

All local secondary schools are working on this on Monday (some on Tuesday too) incase the lockdown gets extended.
At this stage with the lockdown set to end on Tuesday night there will still be a day of delay (Wednesday) for cleaning and general preparation of school before students return. This means Thursday is the earliest likely return to school date.

In the event that the Level changes to 3 then only essential worker’s children will be able to return, in which case other students will need to be as connected as possible.

Our practical subjects are a challenge for which we have no reasonable solution. Some art folio work can be sent home, but Hard Materials is too hard, except for book work.

We can facilitate contactless collection of student work, materials and tasks and notify you of timing for this once we are organised.

In the meantime please take special care of each other and remember that health and wellbeing matter the most.

Kelvin

The Tasman Alliance is closing the Motueka Valley Highway between Tapawera and Woodstock on Friday 13 August from 10am - 4pm. This is to allow the detonation and removal of a 25 tonne rock overhang at the rock fall site currently under one lane traffic management. This work is necessary to safely re open the road to two lanes. Thank you for your understanding and allowing us to undertake this work safely.

Update.

Buses will run as normal at 3:20.
The slip at McLeans is expected to be cleared by then.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE!!
The bus won't be able to go past McLeans due to the slip not being cleared in time.
Sue Wadsworth will contact students in the morning if access is possible for tomorrow.
Sorry. Things were going so well too!

Hi All
We have a lot of water around the school, a LOT of water. There is no immediate risk.
However it may be that the buses will run early if there is a possible risk to bridges etc along the bus routes.
This is a decision which will be based upon discussion between Wadsworths and the school.
We will keep you informed and contact you directly if your children are to be sent home.

Kelvin.
