Taradale Volunteer Fire Brigade. Here to serve our local community. Currently looking for new crew members.

We are currently looking for new members to join our friendly crew. If you think you have what it takes, are enthusiastic and are available to come to call outs, we want you. You must have a NZ Drivers Licence, live locally and be able to pass a medical and police check. If your interested please come along to one of our training nights, which are every Monday 6:30pm - 9pm or if you would like more information please do not hesitate to contact us either by phone or private message on Facebook.

👨‍🚒❤️ Happy Father’s Day!

Today we’re celebrating all the incredible dads and stepdads we have here at Taradale Volunteer Fire Brigade the ones who somehow manage to juggle family life, work, training nights and those unexpected call-outs! 🚒

A special shoutout to our very own father-son duo, Tyler and his dad Tony. 👨‍👦‍🚒 It’s pretty special having two generations of the same family serving our community side by side.

To all the dads, stepdads and father figures in our brigade and our wider community thank you for everything you do, both at home and in the community.

👨‍🚒 Employer Recognition Evening 👩‍🚒

On Friday night, we had the pleasure of hosting our Employer Recognition Evening a chance to acknowledge and say a huge thank you to the incredible employers who support our members to be available when the call comes in. 🚒❤️

We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support, flexibility and understanding our employers show our brigade. Their support makes such a difference and allows our volunteers to balance work commitments with serving our community.

A huge thank you to the FENZ Employer Recognition Team for funding and supplying the evening and helping us celebrate the important role employers play in supporting volunteer firefighters.

And of course, a big thank you to The Puketapu for looking after us with great food 👌🏼

To all the employers who continue to support our volunteers thank you! Your support does not go unnoticed. 🙌🚒

👩‍🚒 MEET THE BRIGADE — MACY PENN

Meet firefighter Macy Penn! 🚒

Macy has been part of the Taradale Volunteer Fire Brigade for 1 year and 3 months and she’s loving every minute of it!

When she’s not in the fire truck, you’ll usually find her in the kitchen 👩‍🍳 Macy works as a chef at The Puketapu, and is lucky enough to have a schedule that allows her to respond to calls when she can, whether that’s during the day or in the middle of the night.

A huge thank you to The Puketapu for supporting Macy and giving her the flexibility to volunteer alongside her job! 🙌

So, why did she join?

Honestly… she wanted to be in the rush of it all and, of course, to help people! 🔥

Growing up, Macy always wanted to be a first responder of some sort, so finding her way to the Taradale Volunteer Fire Brigade felt like the perfect fit.

And being part of something that’s pretty male dominated is nothing new for Macy! She grew up doing speedway, so she’s no stranger to holding her own in a male-dominated environment. 😏🏁

Meet Bryn Shaw 👋

Bryn had wanted to join the brigade for the last 8 or so years, but the timing had never quite worked out. Now he’s finally made it happen!

“I’ve always wanted to give back to the community and help others.”

Meet the Brigade — Nic “Hibbs” Hibberd 🚒

Meet Nic, aka Hibbs a firefighter, uniform gal, new money lady, BBQ meister and our very own free travel advisor! 😂

Nic has been part of the Taradale crew for 2 years (with a few travel breaks along the way!).

By day, she’s the General Manager of Operations at First Light Foods - NZ, juggling a very different kind of team and keeping things running smoothly.

So why did she join the brigade?

“Have you seen the firefighters calendar?! 😂 Jokes! I joined because, like most, I wanted to do something for the community, but in a way that was a bit physical, part of a team and ‘behind the scenes’. It’s enabled me to constantly learn new skills and develop myself. Plus, being a bit of an adrenaline fan certainly helps! The crew have become some of my good mates, and I feel pretty lucky to be part of the brigade.”

🚒 MEET THE BRIGADE – DECLAN MONTEITH 🚒

Meet Declan Monteith, one of our firefighters who has been part of the Taradale Volunteer Fire Brigade for the past year.

By day, Declan works in technical sales for IMS - International Helicopter Equipment Specialists, selling helicopter equipment and helicopter fire buckets. 🚁

Declan joined the brigade because he wanted to give back to the community and be in a position to help people when they need it most. He also wanted to develop practical skills, work as part of a team and gain valuable experience in emergency response.

We’re stoked to have you as part of the team, Declan! 👨‍🚒

July saw our crew respond to 13 calls across the Taradale area.

🔥 3 × Miscellaneous fires
🚑 2 × Medical incidents
🚗 2 × Motor vehicle accidents
🚨 6 × Alarm activations

A less busy month for the team, but as always, a huge thank you to our volunteers who drop everything to answer the call. ❤️

👩‍🚒 Meet the Brigade – Makere Pohe

Name: Makere Pohe
Role: Firefighter
Time with the brigade: 1 year

As a māmā to two young boys (3 & 2), I was looking for something that was just for me, something that would challenge me. I worked previously with a couple guys who were at the brigade and thought I’d try a training night out, and it stuck. An added bonus was getting (and staying) fit, but I quickly realised it’s so much more than that.

It’s about serving the community my whānau and I call home, learning new skills, and standing alongside some pretty awesome people in the brigade.

And, of course, there’s one very important reason to stay strong…

“I need to keep beating my nephews in an arm wrestle!” 💪🏽😂

🚒 Meet the Brigade – Michali Claudatos 🚒

This week we’re introducing firefighter Michali Claudatos!

👨‍🚒 Role: Firefighter
⏱️ Time with the brigade: About 1 year and a couple of months
💼 Day job: Project Manager / Architectural Designer

Why did you join the brigade?

“I was first asked to come along and see if I’d like to join when I was 17 or 18 by a couple of brigade members, but I never got around to it. Then, 19 years later, they turned up at my house to do some training… and the rest is history!”

“After moving to Hawke’s Bay six years ago, I wanted to give back and feel like I was truly part of the community. And if I’m honest… I also like proving that I can do anything!” 😉
