Suppot Stuart Bunn in the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge
Why I'm taking up the challenge...
I'm racing up the Sky Tower in full firefighting kit to raise vital funds and awareness for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC). Every day 8 children and adults in New Zealand are diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. LBC is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families, this support can last months or even years. LBC receives very little government funding, so please donate and help me support this great cause. It’s simple, fast and totally secure and LBC will email you a tax-deductible receipt. Thank you for your amazing support!

That police officer you called a di****ad for writing you a ticket, just spent three hours on the scene of a wreck where a drunk driver killed a family of four.

Those firefighters you’re pi**ed at for shutting down the road, just pulled a grandfather out of a burning house.

Those paramedics that you think are driving to fast, are doing CPR on a 2 year old.

They work when they are hurt, sick, hungry, and tired. They are continuously asked to do more with less, and do it with a smile on their face. Why?

Because they love what they do!!! But, most importantly, because they care.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is preparing for the impacts of Cyclone Vaianu this weekend

We been working with NEMA at national level and with regional CDEM groups since mid week, as well as the other emergency services

Fire and Emergency has specialist resources including Urban Search and Rescue and Specialist Water Rescue Teams ready to assist local brigades. Decisions on where to pre-position these resources will be made today.

Some tips below on how to prepare and be safe when the weather gets a bit nasty.

πŸš’ Always call 111 when life or safety is at risk.

πŸš’ Do not drive through floodwater – you are putting yourself at risk, and risking the lives of those who come to your rescue

πŸš’ You can’t tell how deep the water is, or how swift

πŸš’ The road may have been washed away, there could be hidden obstacles

πŸš’ Take down trampolines and outside furniture so they don’t become flying hazards in strong winds

πŸš’ Prepare for power outages - We recommend using torches and battery powered devices wherever possible to reduce the risk of unwanted fire in your home during a power cut

πŸš’ Be mindful of weather warnings from MetService

πŸš’ Follow all advice and instructions from Civil Defence
