Due to the predicted weather event last weekend we pre deployed a team from Tasman Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade and a 4x4 vehicle to be based at Kaiteriteri Beach. Thanks to the 2 volunteers who gave up their long weekend to help out.

Also a huge thank you to Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve for supplying the accommodation.

Obviously we are happy the event wasn’t as bad as expected.

Period: 41hrs from 9am Sun, 31 May - 2am Tue, 2 Jun

Forecast: Expect 400 to 500 mm of rain, but possibly as much as 600 mm about some peaks. Peak rates of 20 to 30 mm/h. Thunderstorms possible.
Moderate chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.

Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.

CALL OUT #: 17 Just before 12 today we received a call to a medical event at Kaiteriteri Beach along with Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade Hato Hone St John Nelson and Tasman Bays and Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter
Unfortunately despite the amazing efforts from bystanders and first responders it was a sad outcome. Our thoughts are with families and friends at this time.
