On Thursday, this week, our year 3/4s attended a basketball tournament organised by Whaea Courtney and Mrs Kereopa at Turaki School. The comp included Turaki, Tarrangower, Taumarunui Primary and St Pats. It was an incredible competition. We came away with winning the overall FairPlay award, Charlie won the team FairPlay award and Bridget and Wyatt were top point scorers. Ugomsi was also nominated as a stand out player.

A big thank you to Turaki for all the organisation and also to Candice for taking time out of her day to help us with transport and coaching.

Our Head Boy, Mason Mahu, and Head Girl, Ella-Rose Bacon, proudly represented our school at the Taumarunui Dawn Parade on ANZAC Day. In a moment of deep respect and remembrance, they laid a wreath on behalf of our school community, honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. Their leadership, composure, and reverence reflected the values of our school, making us incredibly proud. It was awesome to see several other students and whānau in attendance as well.

I am pleased to share that our ERO report has been published on the ERO website today. Please follow the link to read the full report. Having this available online is a wonderful way to head into a new term.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Board of Trustees for their support throughout this positive review. I also extend my sincere thanks to our staff, who consistently go the extra mile for our students. Thank you as well to our parents, students, parish, and wider community for your ongoing support in making our school such a special place.

Many staff have been in over the holidays, with all teachers spending time preparing for the term ahead. Mr Millen and I have also just completed three days of structured literacy training in the Liz Kane programme in Palmerston North.

Our overall learning theme for Term 2 is Celebrations, and our Religious Education focus will centre on the stories of Jesus.

St Patrick’s School is blessed to have a dedicated Board of Trustees and staff who are committed to building on the positive outcomes of our ERO report and continuing to grow our school.

We are looking forward to seeing our students back on Monday and to having another awesome term.

Ngā mihi
Gerry McGirr
