Some important info from NZTA: sections of SH29 Takitimu Drive Toll Road and SH2 Takitimu Drive will be closed this weekend.

Detours will be in place and delays are expected, so please plan ahead – especially if you’re heading to Saturday sports!

Major road closures on SH29 and SH2 Tauranga – 12 to 15 June

People driving through Tauranga will see significant closures on SH29 Takitimu Drive Toll Road and SH2 Takitimu Drive from Friday 12 June to Monday 15 June.

We need these closures to safely complete works where SH2 and SH29/Takitimu Drive meet. This includes road widening, pavement work, barrier installation and layout changes.

Expect delays around SH29 Tauriko and SH2 near Fifteenth Avenue. Allow extra time, slow down and follow traffic management on site.

Closure details:

SH2 Takitimu Drive northbound to Tauranga CBD: SH29 to Eleventh Avenue

• Friday 12 June: 8pm–6am
• Saturday 13 June: 7pm–6am
• Sunday 14 June: 7pm–4am

Detour: Cameron Road

SH29 Takitimu Drive Toll Road northbound: SH29/SH36 Tauriko to SH2 Fifteenth/Eleventh Avenue

• 8pm Friday 12 June – 4am Monday 15 June

Detour: SH29A

Southbound lanes remain open.

Rain dates: 19–23 June (weather dependent).

This work supports Takitimu North Link Stage 1, a 6.8km 4-lane expressway between Tauranga and Te Puna. As a Road of National Significance, it will provide a safer, more reliable alternative to SH2, support economic growth, and improve travel reliability for people and freight across the region. Do you live in Mount Maunganui and have a black cat that’s been missing for a few days? This little wanderer has been found on Moturiki Island (Leisure Island) and is now in the care of the SPCA.

While we cannot confirm that this cat is responsible, at least seven native Kuaka (diving petrels) have been found dead within the same time period and a 100-metre radius, some showing clear signs of predation.

Moturiki and the surrounding dune systems are sensitive wildlife areas, and it only takes one roaming cat to cause significant harm. If you live in the Mount — especially near Mauao and Moturiki — please keep your cat close to home.

If this may be your cat, please contact the SPCA on 07 578 0245.

One dog for every 10 people, Tauranga is a city of animal lovers 🐾

But with more people, more dogs, and busier shared spaces, it’s time to check our rules are still working for everyone.

We’re asking for your views on:

✔️ dog access in public places
✔️ protecting wildlife
✔️ leash rules in busy areas
✔️ managing animals at home

There are a range of ideas on the table and we know not everyone will agree. That’s why we want to hear from you.

UPDATE: as of 8:12am, Tuesday, 03 June

Mōrena everyone, MetService New Zealand have lifted all previous Heavy Rain Warnings. Have a great Wednesday!

---------------------

📣Good morning, MMetService New Zealandis forecasting a wet start to the week, with Heavy Rain Warnings (orange) issued across the Bay of Plenty.

As you can see from the map below, there are two warnings in place, both from 6pm tonight through to 3pm Tuesday.

For the Western Bay of Plenty and Rotorua areas, expect 100 to 140mm of rain. Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm/h are expected, but increasing to 25 to 40 mm/h in possible localised downpours on Tuesday morning and early afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday.

For the Eastern Bay of Plenty, expect 90 to 130mm of rain. Peak rates of 10 to 20mm/h expected, but increasing to 25 to 40mm/h in possible localised downpours Tuesday morning and afternoon.

Heavy rain can cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, as well as surface flooding and slips, making for difficult driving conditions.
If you’re travelling around the region, please take care when on the roads. If you’re at home, be prepared for the rough weather by clearing gutters and drains.

As always, weather can change frequently and quickly, so it’s important to be on alert during this time and keep an eye on the latest forecasts.
