We caught up with John Kidd in Winton, weekend before last....& took him to see the WC Dodge being restored. John has been a mechanic all his life...& actually tidied the motor of this vehicle up, after it had been sitting idle for 20 years. He was delighted to see the progess. Dodge will be fitted out as a Signal Corps vehicle, & will come out to our Museum when finished. Duncan McGregor Tina McGregor

Today I(Duncan McGregor) hiked the Cavendish Road at Cassino, Italy… which the kiwi engineers built so the 20th armoured regiment could attack Montecassino. Amazing feat, all done under cover. Took the Germans by surprise as appeared impossible to get tanks up there. Stuffy Hazlett ( a local…from northern Southland) got to about 1 Km from the abbey & was killed while putting out a fire on the camo net on the back of his tank… just past the farm shown in photo. the Polish Sherman tank shown here hit a mine in the May attack. Other Polish tanks went on to successfully take Montecassino. Pino - my local guide - had an amazing wealth of information about the military history of the area, a passion to go with it, & a genuine huge respect for all the soldiers involved. He is keen to share his knowledge & to ensure that these records & stories are not lost
