👑 MEET THE LADIES OF OLD KING COLE! 👑

What a powerhouse of female talent we have in this year’s Christmas pantomime! 💃✨

This week we’re celebrating some of the wonderful women bringing Old King Cole to life at Te Awamutu Little Theatre.

Our photo features (from left to right, back row) Sas Hurst, Sarah Cox and Kayla Chetwin, with Lily Paulsen and Belle Cook in the front row.

These ladies have some impressive theatre credits between them!

🌟 Sarah Cox and Belle Cook both take on leading roles in Old King Cole, following their previous lead performances in Arsenic and Old Lace and The Addams Family, respectively.

Sarah is also keeping busy behind the scenes, with two exciting upcoming productions she’ll be directing here in Te Awamutu: A Christmas Carol and Beauty and the Beast. Keep an eye out for those!

And our chorus ladies are no less talented:

🎭 Sas Hurst has played leading roles in The King and I, The Sound of Music and Shirley Valentine.

🎭 Lily Paulsen took the lead role in Agnes of God.

🎭 Kayla Chetwin played a leading role in Footloose.

With so much experience, energy and talent on stage, we’re in for a real treat! And with director Jane Wilson at the helm, this promises to be a wonderfully entertaining pantomime for the whole family, full of colourful characters, laughs and plenty of audience participation.

👑 MEET THE CAST OF OLD KING COLE! 👑

This week we’re introducing two of the leading men in our Christmas pantomime, Old King Cole!

Meet Jon Hurst as Old King Cole himself (right) and Ephrem Cox as Florian, the King’s aide.

There’s a bit of a problem brewing in the kingdom! Old King Cole has decided it’s time to marry again, but Florian is wondering why the King is looking for a new wife at his age — especially when the lady he has chosen happens to be the very girl Florian loves! ❤️ Oh dear… this could get complicated!

Both Jon and Ephrem are experienced performers with an impressive list of local theatre credits. You may remember Jon in the lead role in The Sound of Music , and has featured in so many shows from Jesus Christ Superstar to Macbeth! Meanwhile Ephrem appeared in Mamma Mia last year and starred in Dick Whittington the year before and has numerous other credits to his name. He even lent his hand to do lighting and sound for Tempest last year.

Their combined experience includes musicals, pantomimes, plays and plenty of singing. With talent like this on stage, we’re in for a treat!

Directed by Jane Wilson, Old King Cole promises romance, mischief, laughter and all the audience participation you expect from a traditional family pantomime. Expect plenty of chances to cheer, boo and join in the fun!

🎭 Meet the Three Fiddlers! 🎻

Those cheeky grins belong to Odeliah Cook, Lowell Hurst and Solomon Cox, who play the three fiddlers — Old King Cole’s court musicians.

From left to right: Odeliah, Lowell and Solomon.

They are three of the youngest members of our cast (apart from Little King Cole), but they already have plenty of stage experience between them, including singing, dancing and acting. We’re looking forward to seeing them bring plenty of energy and mischief to the royal court!

And if you happen to catch the Junior TALOS production of Shrek, keep an eye out for the very talented Odeliah, who will be playing the lead role of Fiona. 👑

👑 More Behind the Scenes from Old King Cole: The Costumes Are Coming to Life! 👑

Our cast are starting to look the part as the costumes come together for Old King Cole! There are certainly some very colourful characters taking shape — and we're loving seeing the stage fill with all the wonderful costumes.

There’s still plenty of fitting, tweaking and dressing-up to do before everyone is ready for opening night. 🎭

Old King Cole is shaping up to be a fun-filled pantomime packed with colourful characters, laughs, music and plenty of audience participation. We can't wait to share it with you!

👑 Behind the Scenes: Old King Cole! 👑

Things are really starting to take shape for Old King Cole, our fun-filled Christmas pantomime for the whole family!

The cast had their first big Costume Day on Sunday — with plenty of fun trying on costumes, finding things that didn't quite fit, and lots of measuring, pinning and tying by our four very busy costume ladies! 😂

Meanwhile, Sateva has been working for hours and hours designing, creating and painting our stage set, and there's still plenty more to come.

Coming to Te Awamutu Little Theatre in November...
Old King Cole — a pantomime for the whole family!
Old King Cole has decided it’s time to find himself a wife, and the women of the kingdom are lining up to audition for the coveted role of Queen. But Cole has only one woman in mind — Debbie Dumplin, daughter of the royal cook. Unfortunately, Debbie has already given her heart to Florian, the King’s handsome young aide!
And that’s just the beginning of the trouble. Cole’s scheming brother Peski and his wife Pariah have their eyes firmly set on the throne, and with the help of a magical pool that can transform Old King Cole into Young King Cole, their dastardly plans are soon underway.
Paul Reakes’ wonderfully lively version of the classic nursery rhyme has everything you expect from a traditional pantomime — outrageous characters, colourful costumes, songs, slapstick comedy, plenty of laughs and, of course, lots of opportunities for the audience to join in, shout out and cheer their favourite characters on!
With romance, mischief, mayhem and even an exploding birthday cake, Old King Cole is a fun-filled theatrical treat for the whole family. Come along, join in the fun, and help us give our characters the biggest cheers, loudest boos and best pantomime responses you can!

NOTICE: Change of audition times for Old King Cole
All auditions for Old King Cole will now be held on Sunday afternoon from 3pm. Saturday auditions are cancelled.

Please ring Jane on 021 148 5345 to book in an audition slot.

All dance auditions will be at 4.30 on Sunday (not on Saturday).

We are very lucky to have 'Losing It' come to Te Awamutu Little Theatre. It is one show only: a matinee on Sunday August 2nd at 2pm.

Entrance is by gold coin. Please call 021 945-953 to book and ensure your seat.

'Losing It' is a play about dementia, love and loss. The play is dramatic, interactive, highly engaging and is only 45 minutes long.

The creative presentation began over a cup of coffee. Sandra and Ceridwyn discovered that they both had lived with family members with dementia. Over those times each kept diaries and wrote poems and stories to help capture the everyday moments of their experiences. So they said, "Let's write a play".

Last year the play was performed to over 400 people in different settings: a large RSA meeting. retirement villages, a church, a golf club, a theatre, and in private sitting rooms.

'Losing It' reveals some difficult aspects of dementia, with authentic voices of real experience. It includes sorrow, laughter, music and hope.
