33 people supported into employment across Timaru so far this year.
Some came in unsure, some needed a bit of extra support, some just needed someone to back them. Seeing them step into work and find their place has been huge.
Grateful to the employers who partner with us and give opportunities where it matters most!
The mahi continues 💛

What an incredible day at our Careers Expo yesterday i’m still buzzing from it!
A huge shoutout to all of the amazing local businesses who showed up, shared their time, and created real opportunities for exploration for our rangatahi. Your willingness to connect and invest in our young people was invaluable.
And of course, to all the students you were awesome. The curiosity, the questions, the effort put into engaging with employers was so amazing to see.
Events like this remind us just how important it is to bring schools, employers, and our community together. So much potential, so many pathways.
Feeling really proud of what was achieved together 💛

🌟 Empowered and Ready — Career Conversations in Timaru! 🌟 Feel Good Friday Post ⭐️

A group of motivated former refugee youth came together this morning, for an inspiring session with Joshua from Timaru District Council’s People & Capabilities team and Chantal Cote, HR Advisor at Barkers of Geraldine.

Together, we explored what employers really look for — from reliability and communication to attitude and initiative. Joshua and Chantal offered practical advice on how to become work-ready and confidently take those first steps into employment.

For those eager to continue their careers, there was thoughtful guidance on upskilling, goal-setting, and navigating professional pathways in Aotearoa.

Massive thanks to Joshua and Chantal for sharing their time, insights, and encouragement. This group is ready to thrive! 💼🌱

✅ 25 Years of Impact – Mayors Taskforce for Jobs
In 1998, mayors across Aotearoa set a bold goal: every young person under 25 in work or training. That vision created Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) – and today, it’s still transforming lives.
Since 2020, MTFJ has partnered with rural councils to deliver over 5,500 employment opportunities, helping young people into meaningful work and training. It’s about more than jobs – it’s about building futures, reducing social costs, and strengthening communities.
💡 “When young people go off the rails, we find over $500,000 a year to keep them in jail.”
Investing in youth employment is smarter, fairer, and better for everyone.
