For Samoan Language Week this year Room 2 decided to make a tapa cloth and some Isi fans for our school display in the hall. We then concentrated on creating some turtles and sharks from the Samoan legend ‘Laumei ma Malie’ . To finish off we then made some Samoan language chatterboxes, followed by some activities based around numbers, colours and days of the week in Samoan.

During Samoan Language Week, we welcomed Melissa and Tyrin from Le Ala Trust, who organised a Samoan Language Week competition for schools across Tokoroa.
Our school put together a large display featuring artwork from every classroom alongside special Samoan treasures. Tulua and Cruden did a fantastic job representing us and guided the judges through the display, explaining how each piece connected to this year's theme.

For Samoan Language Week, Room 8 has been celebrating Samoan culture through art, language, and music. Students created beautiful fans using paper plates, feathers, popsicle sticks, and beads. They painted their fans in the colours of the Samoan flag, red and blue, and carefully added beads to create detailed and unique designs.
As part of their learning, students have been practising a Samoan alphabet song and have used some of the lyrics as language features on their fans. They have been excited to learn new Samoan words and have embraced the opportunity to explore Samoan culture with enthusiasm and curiosity. We are very proud of the creativity, care, and respect they have shown throughout this learning experience.

Room 7 & 12 explored Samoan culture by creating Tuiga. We used cardboard bases, painted them in bold Samoan colours, and focused on designing unique patterns with feathers, shells, diamantes, and flowers. Students learned how repeating shapes and lines are important in Samoan art and used these patterns to represent cultural stories and personal creativity. Manuia le Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa!

Our players have been demonstrating fantastic teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship every time they step onto the court. It's been great to see their skills developing as they work together, support one another, and give their best effort in every game.

Whether it's chasing down a loose ball, making a great pass, defending strongly, or taking a shot at the hoop, our tamariki continue to represent Tokoroa Central School with pride.

A huge thank you to our coaches, managers, whānau, and supporters who help make these opportunities possible for our learners.
