Please see our social media guidelines in our links. The South Waikato lies at the heart of the North Island, stretching east and west of State Highway 1. The district has a strong history in forestry and dairy farming. Three of the district's four main towns are situated along State Highway 1. The largest centre is Tokoroa which is home to around 13,000 people. Further north is Putaruru (4,000 people), Tirau (700 people) and to the east the small Arapuni community with some 400 residents.

Please be aware that the road across Arapuni Dam will be closed overnight on:

📅 Monday 22 June

The road is expected to be closed from 8pm until 5am each night while resurfacing works take place. Please plan your journey ahead of the closure.

We want to hear from you about the guiding principles that will inform our amalgamation discussions, as part of the Government-directed local government reform. This survey is open until Wednesday 24 June.

🌄 Draft principles were produced by Elected Members at a recent workshop, and now it’s time to hear from the District.
👇 Find out more about the Head Start Pathway and our upcoming July Hui community engagement sessions in the link in the comments below.

Here are the key dates you need to know:
1️⃣ Community Survey | Mon 15 - Wed 24 June
2️⃣ Council Meeting | Thu 25 June - Principals will be locked in and key options to be discussed
3️⃣ July Hui - Community Engagement Sessions | Tues 7, Wed 8, Mon 13, Tue 14 (DATE EDIT* Was previously Tue 14, Wed 15)
4️⃣ Council Meeting | Thu 30 July - Options for Head Start submission to be finalised
5️⃣ Head Start Pathway - Final Deadline | Sun 9 August

Keep an eye out for more info about the July Hui to come! We'll be stopping in at Putāruru, Tīrau, Tokoroa and online via Zoom.
