A cold and early start for our crews this morning, supporting brigades from across the central North Island in Taumarunui 🥶 🚒
In freezing conditions below -6°C, volunteer and career firefighters battled a fire that engulfed a row of shops in Taumarunui overnight.
Collapsed floors made the building far too dangerous to enter. Whanganui’s 17m aerial appliance responded to hit the fire from above and successfully stop it from spreading to neighbouring buildings—requiring a near 2.5-hour drive to reach the scene.
Huge respect to the crews from Taumarunui Volunteer Fire Brigade, Manunui Volunteer Fire Brigade, Ōwhango, Waimarino Volunteer Fire Brigade, Whanganui Volunteer Fire Brigade, Turangi Fire Brigade, Benneydale Volunteer Fire Brigade and Ohakune who worked seamlessly together through freezing conditions to keep the community safe.
