Firefighters Tyler and Tommi represented Tūrangi at the 2026 Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge, tackling the 51 floors in full structural firefighting kit in an effort to raise vital funds and awareness for Blood Cancer NZ! 🧑‍🚒🎗️

The team honoured former Tūrangi Firefighter, Whaea Cheri-Lu Flight and her fight against cancer, by climbing the 1,103 steps of the Auckland Sky Tower in her memory and with her photo proudly up on the dedication wall.

They have done Cheri-Lu, our Brigade and themselves proud by raising $3,475 for Blood Cancer NZ, a cause that is very much close to our hearts. They have also kept her story and memory alive, something the brigade will also continue to do.

There's still time to donate. If you’re able to support this amazing cause, you can donate here: link.turangifire.org.nz/skytower

Not your average morning stroll! 🏔️👨‍🚒

In the early hours of yesterday morning, Tūrangi firefighters Tyler and Tommi took their training for the upcoming Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge later this month to a whole new level by tackling the Tongariro Crossing to the summit and back in full structural firefighting kit.

Approximately 16km and a lot of sweat later, every step is a reminder of why they're doing this: to raise vital funds and awareness for Blood Cancer NZ.

If you’re able to support the team with their climb, you can donate here: link.turangifire.org.nz/skytower

Happy International Women’s Day! 💐

Women make up a third of the Tūrangi Fire Brigade, and at one point our brigade even had more women than men! Our wāhine are an incredible force within our brigade, showing mana, leadership, and commitment in everything they do.

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of women around the world. Kia kaha, wāhine mā! ❤️

Help us fight fires🔥🧯

Do you have a fire hydrant outside your property?

You can spot one by looking for:
🔥Yellow triangle road markers with blue cats eyes that point towards hydrants
🔥Yellow marker poles beside the footpath or yellow paint on curbs
🔥Yellow steel plates in your front lawn marked FH

When our crews arrive at a fire, getting water fast is critical to protecting people and property.

How you can help:
⚠️Keep hydrants clear using a spade to dig around the edges if needed
⚠️Keep lawns mowed so hydrants are easy to spot
⚠️If you notice any issues (missing plate, leaking, damage, etc.), please report it to the Taupō District Council via the Antenno mobile app

A few minutes of maintenance can make a big difference in an emergency. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe ❤️‍🔥

Now 2025 has come to a close, we’re looking back on what was a huge year for the Tūrangi Fire Brigade. From emergency responses and major incidents to training, community events, and celebrating milestones, it’s been a year full of dedication, teamwork, and pride.

We celebrated our 60th Jubilee, hosted Life Member and ex CFO Tangonui Kingi's Gold Star celebration, took on the Sky Tower Challenge for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ, welcomed new recruits, and saw our people complete progression training - all while serving our community 24/7.

A huge thank you to our whānau, local businesses, and the wider community for supporting us. We couldn’t have achieved all we did without you.

Here’s to a safe and successful 2026!
