Autumn colours have emerged in the arboretum! Seasonal change is here and the trees are showing off. 🍂

The pink and white of the Burmese Cherries can be spotted in the Hanger - unique at this time of the year and the tūī are loving it. 🌸

Head over to check out the Autumn colours - we’re open to the public each Sunday til the end of May. 🌲

Huge thanks to the HB Rugby Union for coming to us for their recent pre-season excursion, honing in on connection and growth. The High Ropes were a hit for both the young Academy men, and the HB Tūī on their respective days. The ladies certainly showed up when it counted - hitting the Leap of Faith. Fearless.

Teilah and the gals also teamed up with Polly from The Sauna Project Mahia to get their recovery gains in early on the Sunday morning 🔥

Credit to the young fellas too who battled through & carried a telephone pole up to the trig at Table Mountain. Let us know if you and some mates would like to hīkoi up there and bring it back for us.

Kia pai tō mahi and all the best this coming season!

Tractor Trek / Think and Be Me 🚜😇🧠

It has been our pleasure to host the Tractor Trek team in our Education Centre accommodation for the night. The work that Phil, Graeme, Brian and the crew put in three years ago up here in Tūtira and the wider Tūtira District, amid the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle should not be understated. We are also hugely appreciative of the work they continue to do with the 'Think and Be Me' initiative which focuses on taha hinengaro, the mental wellbeing of tamariki in primary schools. They also offer sweet rides on their tractors!

They set off early this morning heading north to visit local schools Tūtira Primary School and Putorino School where they delivered the programme. These tractors will clock up some serious mileage over the next few weeks as the team continue to drop in at schools and educate kids all over the place! Keep an eye out for them in Napier tonight and tomorrow.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our trustee, Quenten Higgan.

Quenten served Guthrie-Smith Trust with enthusiasm, innovation and his expertise was highly valued. He brought ideas and skills to the table that were unmatched and his willingness to contribute was hugely appreciated.
The Trust is profoundly grateful for his service and he will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with Quenten’s family, friends and all who had the privilege of working alongside him, during this difficult time.

Back in the 60s, our current Education Centre building was built and it was opened originally for the purpose of accommodating farm cadets. Our current Board Chairman David Allan was an integral part of that group.

We were pleased to host 20 young farmers from eastern & central parts of the North Island this week at the GS Education Centre. Special thanks to Michelle and Becca of the Growing Future Farmers programme in partnership with EIT.

Further thanks go out to Fire & Emergency NZ, Ross from Blackhawk Dog Food, Che from NZ Police, and Warren for his farm vehicle workshop - all who made the trip out to Tūtira during the week to spend time with the young GFF crew and share their expertise. A valuable experience for all!
