The final push is on, the final leaflet has been delivered. I have spent a number of weeks down at the recycling centre, so much so I have become a regular and get called out for being 'persistent'. :-)

G'Day All,

The clocks ticking for the elections, Sat 8th Oct at midday. Go and vote please!

PPA in Pinehaven was a meeting to remember with strong held views over the Silverstream Spur Development with Guildford Timber Company. Its clearly unresolved and the council needs to be honest with the Pinehaven residents, and work this through.

Secondly getting a heap of feedback on our outdated Main St. It needs updating like a hole in the head. Some ideas for getting a beating heart back into the city centre;

- Fully or Partially closing off Main St, this could be permanently or e.g. at weekends or evenings
- Promote outlet shops e.g. Where are the outlet shops from Otaki going once SH1 road opens?
- Promote a Petone Cafe culture (Well done to Petone for doing this so well)
- Buskers events
- Improv e.g. 'Whos line is it anyway' style
- Food carts over the Winter evenings
- Have Cultural events e.g. Indian, Chinese, Kapa Haka or even Morris dancing (spot the POME right?)

These ideas are not going to cost the earth and are achievable in this next 3 year term.

Hi All,

After another successful day pamphleting, I was up Gemstone Drive in Birchville, when a friend pointed out the free streaming water hydrant on his road. OK lets take a look I said, thinking it was going to smallish. But no. This leak has been here for 2 months and is a constant 'hose pipe' rate. Doing rough anecdotal calculations at 5L / minute, thats 400,000L over that time. Even if i'm out by a factor of 10, thats a shed load of water. Just wait to the water restrictions being enforced in summer!

Busy week this week gone. (and so it should for your potential local reps).

Tues - A lively debate with the UH Womens Business Assoc.
Wed - Grey Power meeting at the Cossie & the final Council meeting (as a member of public of course).
Thu - Great catch up with Tracy & Karen with new candidates meeting. I cannot stress enough the good work award winning 'the womble inn' does for the community. https://m.facebook.com/Womble-Inn-118111994224754/
Pay them a visit and support (behind the Mayfair).

For the voting geeks among us, visit the returns https://www.electionz.com/LGE2022Returns/ELT45UH22_returns.htm
The public are taking their time in deciding who to vote for, compared to last elections.

Finally,

There's a Pinehaven Progressive Association (PPA) 'meet the candidates' public meeting to be held at the PPA hall on 28 Sep at 7 pm.

I would think this is the last opportunity to quiz the candidates, as there is no others on the horizion.

In the center of Upper Hutt, you will find a community-centered group started as a way of connecting people, bringing more back into the community and making good use of the things we find and that are given.

Well its been a busy couple of days. I have been outside Fraser Crescent School, promoting better safety signage, outside UH Mall promoting fixing the roads and pushing back on Three Waters. I'm heading to the recycling centre near Maidstone Max, to push for Kerbside recycling.

What I'm hearing by talking to people face to face, is the want for a change in policies and councillors.

Is this the best we can do as a community?

Afternoon All,

Have you been across the 'Planning for Growth' flyer that the council has provided?

Its the change to housing density rules thats coming in. It means all homes, you, the neighbour, can now be 3 storeys high without resource consent. Closer to the CBD, its possible to build higher still.

There are going to be more of us in the future, that's a fact, however what we need to guard against, is the quality of the development, the pressure on infrastructure and the adjacent green spaces. Upper Hutt's leafy appeal could start to change.

I'm for well planned, high density in the right places. Its a watch and see for all of us.

Cheers
