Message from the Colonel Commandant, RNZALR

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On Wednesday 12 November 2025, we celebrate the reintroduction of the Conductor role, a title that speaks to mastery, responsibility, and trust in RNZALR.
It was fitting that we gathered at Buckle Street, Wellington, the historic home of Army logistics, to recognise three RNZALR Warrant Officer’s and awarded them the Conductor parchments.

The Honourable and Ancient Appointment of Conductor stands as one of the oldest and most esteemed roles in military history, dating back to its first mention in the Statute of Westminster of 1327.
Originally, Conductors were responsible for guiding soldiers to assembly points, ensuring order and efficiency during the mass movement of medieval armies. Over subsequent centuries, the role evolved significantly, becoming a cornerstone of military logistics.
The reintroduction of the Conductor appointment was not a symbolic gesture. It was a deliberate, strategic action intended to strengthen the RNZALR’s core leadership and trade standards through four key purposes:
Leadership and Mentorship: Conductors serve as senior professional leaders, providing mentorship, technical guidance, advice to command teams and career development support to junior personnel. They represent the pinnacle of leadership within their trades.
Professional Standards: Conductors are tasked with upholding and enhancing professional, ethical, and technical standards across the Logistic Specialist and Ammunition Technician Trades, acting as role models and custodians of excellence.
Heritage and Pride: The appointment reconnects the RNZALR with its distinguished logistics heritage, honouring the contributions of generations of military logisticians and reinforcing regimental identity and esprit de corps.
International Alignment: The revival ensures New Zealand remains aligned with allied logistic forces, maintaining professional parity and strengthening New Zealand’s standing within the broader military logistics community.

Congratulations to our three new RNZALR Conductors WEF 30 Oct 2024:

D1000043 WO1 Te Whaea Edwards, Appointment of RNZALR Conductor of Ammunition Technician,
D52351 WO1 David Alexander, Appointment of RNZALR Conductor Quartermaster , and
P56156 WO1 Terry McGeough, Appointment of RNZALR Conductor Supply Chain.

You all carry the stewardship of people, processes, profession’s standards, and advice that keeps the force ready on behalf of the Regiment and the Army.
Congratulations on being recipients of this significant position.

I would also like to thank WO2 Rob McKie for doing the research on the honourable and ancient appointment of conductors and assisting in making this event possible.

Kia ora Team, just a short note to thank you all for the Regimental Farewell that I received last month. It was lovely evening and very well organised by WO1 Te Whaea Edwards and WO1 Adam Orlowski and their respective Teams.

It has been the greatest of privilege to serve as your Colonel Commandant for the past six years. The Regiment is in great heart as we continually provide outstanding logistic support to Ngati Tumatauenga.

All the very best to you and your whanau for the balance of your respective careers.
