📣 Last call for nominations in this year’s Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards!

Since 2004, these annual awards have shone a light on countless hours of service by local volunteer groups and initiatives. A helping hand, a warm meal, a friendly smile, a kind word – Upper Hutt’s community groups and organisations show up for others, and for our city, every day.

Give them a big “Upper Hutt thank you” and nominate them today 👇

Happy Birthday Upper Hutt!

60 years later, we’re still growing, changing, and proudly calling this place home. 💚

From a small rural town to the vibrant city we know today, it’s the people, places, clubs, businesses, schools, parks, and communities that have shaped Upper Hutt into something pretty special.

Here’s to 60 years of city status 🥳🏙️

It’s that time of year again when we survey a group of residents to ask for their feedback. This feedback will help us understand resident satisfaction and will help with our decision making so we can prioritise resources and efforts to the areas that will deliver the best outcomes for our city. 📈

Residents are chosen randomly from the Electoral Roll and sent an invitation by post which they should start receiving in the next few days. If you get an invitation to take part, you have until 23 July to have your say on various services and activities in our city. 🏙

As an added bonus, each survey goes into the draw for one of five $200 supermarket vouchers. 🎉

Final days to have your say on Upper Hutt’s transport future ⏳

Transport affects how we all live, from daily commutes to access to work, school, and essential services.

Our draft Transport Strategy sets the direction for the next 30 years.

Now’s your last chance to help shape it.

If you haven’t had your say yet, it only takes a few minutes, and it helps ensure the priorities for the transport in the next 30 years reflect what matters most to our community.

Have your say now 👇

Last week, it was all eyes on Upper Hutt’s young people. ✨

We recognised the outstanding talents, leadership, resilience, and community spirit shown by local rangatahi (teenagers) at the 2026 Ngā Tohu Whakanui Rangatahi | Youth Awards. It’s clear that their actions and contributions do not go unnoticed: a record 43 nominations made for an inspiring outpouring of support.

Huge congratulations to the winners, runners-up, and nominees and all the young people who make a difference in their schools, teams, clubs, and for each other every day! 🙌

We’d also like to extend a big thank you to Whirinaki Whare Taonga, Mangaroa Farms, Rimutaka Lions Club NZ and Silverstream Lions Club NZ, Youthtown Upper Hutt, and NZCIS - NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport for sponsoring the awards, and to the crew at Kickstart who went all out to make the awards ceremony unforgettable.

Getting around should feel safe… for everyone 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️

In the past 10 years, there have been 74 serious or fatal crashes in Upper Hutt, with many involving people walking or cycling. That’s not just a statistic. It’s a real concern for families, young people, and our community.

Our draft Transport Strategy looks at the bigger picture on how we make it safer and easier for people to move around Upper Hutt, now and into the future.

We’d like your input to help confirm we’re on the right track.

So many of you have been dropping off your food and beverage cartons (like Tetra Paks) at the recycling station!

But have you ever wondered what actually happens to them?

Follow the full journey from the drop-off bins through to sorting, baling, and sending them off to specialist facilities where they’re transformed into something new. 👇

And remember to ensure they are open and clean or they go in the rubbish!

A big thank you for recycling your Tetra Paks, every one you drop off makes a difference 💚
