Rob Cope's Latest '2 Minute Tuesday'.

I Give My Kids Lines for Swearing!

"I will only use beautiful uplifting words"

If you’ve been to one of my talks, you’ll know I swear, but I don't want my kids to swear while they’re young. It’s just a personal thing. Maybe you don't mind your kids swearing and that's totally cool too. Your house, your rules.

Washing a kid’s mouth out with soap is not a great approach — it’s mean, it's a battle, and honestly, it’s over way too quickly.

Lines, though? Lines take ages to write out, and that’s the whole point — it works. Our kids still don’t swear at home because they know they’ll be writing for a good long while if they do! "I will only use beautiful uplifting words"

Out of Zone Enrolments

The Waipu Primary School Board of Trustees has determined that a limited number of places are available for students living outside our newly established Home Zone.

For the remainder of the current 2026 school year, we welcome applications for a total of up to 20 placements combined across Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5 classes.

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds our 20 available spaces, selection will be made via a supervised ballot following the legislative priority order outlined in our Enrolment Scheme. Parents will be notified of the outcome within three school days of any ballot.

How to apply - Collect a physical pack from the school office or fill out the Online Enrolment Form directly online - https://enrolments.linc-ed.com/apply/NZ/1125

Please refer to our school website for further information and dates. https://www.wps.school.nz/out-of-zone-enrolments/

Latest 2 Minute Tuesday Update from Rob Cope: Roblox - Is It Safe for Kids?

Over 80 million players log in daily — but behind the fun, there are dangers most parents have no idea about. From predators and secret “condo” games to grooming on apps like WhatsApp, Snapchat, Discord, this video reveals what every parent needs to know. Don’t miss it!

(Warning - This video contains footage of an actual s*x room built within Roblox and although I have blurred this it is not intended for children to watch.)

Under the Education and Training Act 2020, schools must formally consult with their community before shifting from a continuous entry model (where children start on or immediately after their fifth birthday) to a cohort entry model. The linked document outlines how cohort entry works, the legal frameworks governing it, the expected benefits and impacts, and instructions on how you can submit your feedback. There is also an additional link to the online consultation form.

Kia ora whānau. The next issue of our school newsletter will be going out on Friday the 5th of June. Today we are hosting a MoE Maths PLD Day. Koukou and Pīwaiwaka had a fun dress up day on Thursday to end the week - they know all of their letter sounds! Woop Woop, great learning.

We hope you all have a lovely long King's Birthday Weekend. We look forward to seeing tamariki on Tuesday next week.

Please find a copy of the following section from our Week 1, Term 2 Newsletter.

On behalf of the Waipu Primary School Board of Trustees & the MInistry of Education, I would like to advise you that we are building new fences along the front of the school, down the driveway and around to St Mary’s Road. The cost of the fencing is being met by the Ministry of Education.

This fencing is being put in place for the safety of students of Waipu School who have complex and high behavioural needs, that can lead to them attempting to leave the school grounds unaccompanied. Fencing has been recommended by specialist occupational therapists who have worked alongside the school, and the students and their families.

The fencing project is due to start on the 25th of May.

There will be 2 pedestrian gates at either end of our Argyle Street road frontage as well as double vehicle gates near where whānau meet to collect their children at the end of the day. These double gates will be open at the start and end of the school day. We also are looking at ideas to beautify the entrance way in this area and the picture included is one concept drawing to consider.

The 'Sharing Shed' will be repositioned to a suitable place where it can be accessed by all.
