If you’ve ever thought:
“Our local surf club does an awesome job — I wonder how I can show some support… …I’ve got a bit of regular spare time, but the ocean swimming isn’t really my thing…”
👉 Then we’ve got the perfect role for you!
Like many community clubs, we rely on volunteers to keep things running strong 💪
Our very own Local Legend Liz has been holding the fort down as Club Administrator for the past few years. She officially stepped down at our AGM last year, but has generously continued in the role while we searched for someone new to volunteer for this super crucial club role 🙌
Now it’s really crunch time to pass the torch...
With Liz on hand to support a smooth transition, plus an Administrator Workshop hosted by Surf Life Saving NZ planned for not very far away (13 June, Palmerston North), you’ll be set up for success from day one — you won’t be thrown in the deep end!

📋 The Role: Club Administrator
Behind-the-scenes support that keeps everything ticking:
• Member management (SLSNZ portal)
• Registrations & logistics
• Club communications
• Data management
• Policies & procedures
• Committee admin + minutes
• Regular and timely monitoring of club email and directing to key club personnel

📣 Meet Your Waitārere Beach Lifeguard (weekly patrol) Team! 🌊

Summer is almost here, and our dedicated team of lifeguards are ready to keep you safe on the sand and in the surf!

From setting up the flags each patrol to performing preventative actions, these local legends are passionate about giving back to the community and ensuring everyone has a great time at the beach.

Today we are introducing our Regional Guard team (Peter, Lilly, Fern and Phoebe). These guys will be patrolling during the week over the busy summer holiday period.
The Weekly patrols are:
- Monday to Friday 11am to 6pm
- Kicks off Monday 15th December, with last patrol Friday 23rd January 2026.

Don’t forget we have weekend Patrol (serviced by our amazing volunteer lifeguards).
Weekend patrols are:
- Every Saturday and Sunday 1pm to 5pm
- Kicks off Saturday 6th December 2025
- Last weekend patrol is 8th March 2026.

Come say hi next time you're down at the beach, and remember to swim between the flags! 🚩

🌊Registration is OPEN for our 2025/2026 Junior Surf Program! 🌊

Junior Surf is designed to nurture children’s confidence, deepen their understanding of beach and coastal environments, and enhance their skills in and around the water – all while having heaps of fun!

Whether your child is just starting out or already loves the ocean, Junior Surf is a fantastic way to build water safety knowledge, make new friends, and enjoy active weekends at the beach.

Swim Assessment Day is 23rd November 2025 at the Levin Aquatic Centre

Kia ora Waitarere Community

As summer approaches, so does the increased risk of wildfires in our region.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand and Horowhenua District Council Emergency Management will be present, to take you through some online tools, share practical advice and answer questions

Saturday 27th September. Two sessions available, at the Waitarere beach surf club.

We're looking for volunteers to join us this season in a range of roles, from surf lifeguards and patrol support to admin and committee positions.
No matter how much time you have, it all helps. You don't need to be on the beach to make a difference.

St Aidan's Waitarere is delighted to host a clothes swap sale in response to recent posts on What's up Waitarere. We invite you to donate freshly laundered clothing (no holes or rips please) you or your loved ones no longer wear on SATURDAY 30th Aug between 9:30 and 11am.
On SATURDAY 6th SEPTEMBER you are invited to the church for our sale. Nothing over $20.
We would love some coathangers if you have any spare, and if anyone has a clothes rail we could borrow, that would be wonderful!
Funds will be split 50/50 between our surf lifesaving club and Levin Anglicans. Nau mai, haere mai!
