UNISS 2026

UNISS may not have delivered the results this group of girls wanted, but sometimes the most important outcomes aren't found on the scoreboard.

There were lessons, challenges, moments of resilience and, most importantly, opportunities to grow. For 10 out of the 12 players, this was their first experience at this level; for many, it was a reminder that success is built over time, not overnight.

We are incredibly proud of the girls who represented Waiuku College at UNISS. They showed courage, resilience and plenty of heart, and they now have a much clearer understanding of what it takes to compete at this level.

Yesterday, our International Director of Community and Global Relations Mrs. Walters connected with prospective students and parents at an Education New Zealand fair in Seoul, Korea. We look forward to welcoming many these students to the Waiuku College whaanau.

The Waiuku College Equestrian Team have just returned from a phenomenal week at the North Island Secondary Schools Championship in Taupō, with over 500 riders attending.
What a huge week we all had! We are incredibly proud of the girls and their individual placings against big fields and some very tough competition.

• 1st Two Phase 80–90cm
• 1st Showhunter 90cm
• Waikato Trophy – Best Performed North Island Showhunter Pony

🏆 Alyssa Hafner – STB Supreme
• 2nd 1B Dressage
• 1st 1C Dressage
• 10th Arena Eventing 95cm
• 9th Accumulator 90cm–1m

🏆 Indy Chevis – Wanna Bet
• 10th OC Dressage
• 1st Arena Eventing 65cm
• 6th Showhunter 60cm
• 8th 60–70cm Accumulator

🏆 Anaya Fairhall – Ngatotara Fortune 500
• 13th Arena Eventing 80cm
• 13th OD Dressage

The girls then did us incredibly proud by being named Runner-Up in the Manaakitanga Challenge, receiving a $450 prize from the sponsors, Betavet.
The Manaakitanga Challenge award is nominated by other schools competing at the event and recognises respect for horses and the people around them — horse welfare, horsemanship, kindness, safety and respect. This is such a special award to receive and a wonderful reflection of the team and the way they conduct themselves.

They also had the opportunity to take part in a special tree-planting ceremony, where every school planted a tree for the charity All Together Safety NZ Eventing, accompanied by a karakia and blessing from Tūwharetoa.
Over 100 trees were planted, providing a hands-on way for the 2026 North Island Secondary School riders to leave a lasting mark on equestrian sport while helping to create a safer environment for everyone who competes after them.

A huge thank you to all our parents, grandparents, supporters, coaches, organisers and sponsors for everything you do to make opportunities like this possible. We truly couldn’t do it without you.

It was a little bittersweet, as this was Taylor and Alyssa’s last school competition, with both girls in Year 13 this year.
And we can’t forget Anaya’s amazing pony, Ngatotara Fortune 500, who has now officially retired from competition following the completion of this event.
So many memories, some amazing awards, plenty of laughs and so much fun!

Today Mrs. Walters and Mr. Kelly travelled to Ulsan City, three hours from Seoul, South Korea via fast-train. The focus in Ulsan was two presentations to parents, and employees of Kyowan, one of South Korea's largest education agencies about Waiuku College's international student programme.

Year 12 Hospitality students were perfecting their sandwich-making skills today with club sandwiches and bacon and egg paninis on the menu. A hive of activity while learning life-long skills.

An update on Fergus Hedley-Craig at the U19 New Zealand Golf Championship in Christchurch. Day 1 saw Fergus finish the day on top of the leaderboard with an amazing 4-under par in a field of 78 golfers. Today - Day 2 had Fergus finish with an 4-over par round, finishing with an even par after 2 days, and in solo 12th place overall. Well done on a great 2 days! Keep going and have fun 😊

Congratulations Liam, we are very proud of this fantastic achievement!

HEARTLAND DEBUT

All the best to Liam Sargent who makes his Heartland Championship Debut when he referees the top of the table clash between King Country and South Canterbury in Te Kuiti. Liam will also be the first Counties Manukau Referee in more than 20 years to be appointed to officiate a Mens First Class Fixture!

We wish Liam all the best for the match!

Today, Waiuku College farewelled our Japanese students from Shibaura Kashiwa Junior High School with cultural performances, and games. Many of our guests are already planning a return!
