✨ Walk the Line – NZ Fashion Week 2026 ✨

What an incredible opportunity for our Mahurangi College Textiles students!

Sixteen students were selected to showcase their garments as part of Walk the Line at New Zealand Fashion Week 2026, with 14 ultimately taking to the runway.

Each garment was designed and constructed by the students themselves as part of their Textiles programmes, taking them through the full process from concept and experimentation through to pattern development, construction, fitting and final refinement.

For our students, this was a chance to take work created in the classroom and experience what it is like to present their designs in a professional fashion environment — including the preparation, rehearsals and excitement of seeing their own work on the runway.

🏆 A special congratulations to Katya, who won the 2026 Enchanted Earth category!

The students' work also received some fantastic exposure beyond the runway, featuring on Seven Sharp and in a dedicated segment on TVNZ Breakfast, with Liana Dove and Savannah Noble representing the group in interviews.

A huge congratulations to all of our students involved. This was a significant undertaking and an amazing opportunity to see just where the skills developed through Technology and Textiles can take them beyond the classroom.

Last week Momentum and some of Impulse competed at the Auckland Regional competition of DanceNZMade Interschools.

On Thursday Momentum competed their two team dances and received scores of 93-94% for both. The competition was MASSIVE this year, with 20-40 teams in each category. Their dance "Somebody" (the one with the ties if you've seen it) placed 4th in the year 11-13 teams category.

Friday was the solo/duo/trio side of the competition and we came away with the following placings:

Year 7 Solos: Jayda 5th, Ārana 7th
Year 7/8 Duo/Trios: Jayda, Ārana & Emily 4th, Lulu & Isabella 5th

Year 12 Solo: Kaylin 1st (and a nomination to compete at Nationals)
Year 11-13 Duo/Trios: Paige & Tilly 1st, Elsa & Charlie 4th

Also some stand out performances from:

Ava (year 10 solo)
Emily (year 12 solo)
Ashlee & Saskia (year 9/10 duo/trios)
Lexi & Sienna (year 11-13 duo/trios)

Earlier this week 44 students took to the Pinnacles Track in beautiful weather, making the most of the opportunity to put their outdoor skills, teamwork and independence into practice.

The Pinnacles Hut has to be one of the best huts in New Zealand, and the students embraced the challenge of being self-sufficient, preparing some great meals and working together throughout the trip. An early 5:30am start on our second morning saw everyone heading to the summit of the Pinnacles to witness a breathtaking sunrise. A pretty special reward for the early wake-up call.

A fantastic final trip to cap off a great year of Outdoor Education.

What a fabulous night at MATHEX 2026! It was like the Olympic Games for mathematicians — fast-paced, competitive and full of excitement!

Our Year 7 and Year 8 teams had an absolute ball, tackling a series of tricky questions for the full 30 minutes and earning points along the way. The competition was tight, with schools racing to solve each question and their runners sprinting to the markers to submit their answers!

The stadium was buzzing with family and friends cheering on the students, while the incredibly enthusiastic compere had the crowd well and truly fired up.

With all that noise and excitement, it was a wonder anyone could concentrate on the maths!

Well done to all our students for giving it their all and representing us so brilliantly!

Off to Nationals!

A huge congratulations to our Mahurangi College students who represented us at the Police Blue Light competition last week.

The team had a fantastic day taking on a range of challenges, working together and representing Mahurangi brilliantly. Even better — they beat Whangaparāoa and have now qualified for the Nationals in Papakura this November!

We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school and threw themselves into every challenge.

A massive thank you to Senior Constable Katie Hawkins and NZ Police for giving our students this fantastic opportunity and supporting them throughout the day.

Well done, team — Nationals here we come!
