PRIME MINISTER LUXON JOINS PAKISTANI COMMUNITY TO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY IN AUCKLAND
Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day was commemorated in Auckland with a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by New Zealand Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Christopher Luxon. The event was organized by Pakistan Association of New Zealand (PANZ) with the support of the Pakistan High Commission.
Pakistan High Commissioner Dr. Faisal Aziz Ahmad hoisted the national flag alongside Prime Minister Luxon and prominent community members, marking the occasion with a spirit of unity and shared heritage.
In his address, Prime Minister Luxon highlighted the longstanding and friendly relations between New Zealand and Pakistan, and acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and facilitating peace negotiations. He also commended the positive contributions of the Pakistani-Kiwi community to New Zealand’s social and economic development.
In addition to the Prime Minister, several members of the Cabinet were in attendance, including the Hon. Mark Mitchell, Minister for Ethnic Communities, and the Hon. Simon Watts, Minister for Climate Change. Opposition representatives present included: Hon. Jenny Salesa, Labour Party Spokesperson for Ethnic Communities; Hon. Vanushi Walters, Labour Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs; and Hon. Marama Davidson, Co-Leader of the Green Party as well as several National, Labor and Green Party MPs.
In his welcome address, President PANZ, Dr Asif Saeed Khan, highlighted the role of the Pakistani community in the progress and development of New Zealand.
A short documentary commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was screened during the event, paying tribute to the founder of Pakistan and his enduring vision.
