Follow us on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nz_on_air/ NZ On Air funds stories and songs that reflect the diverse lives of New Zealanders. We are an independent government public media funding agency investing in important local content that New Zealand's small market cannot provide alone. Our aim is to provide great New Zealand content that is valued and enjoyed by many

New Zealand audiences. We fund diverse local content on multiple platforms from traditional television and radio to online — we try to provide something for everyone. We try to maintain a balance between content for mainstream and special interest audiences.

✨We congratulate the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours recipients across Aotearoa, recognising outstanding contributions to their communities and industries.

🎥We celebrate Dr Shuchi Kothari for her services to the screen industry — as a writer and producer and advocate for diverse voices, including her role championing Pan-Asian storytelling in Aotearoa.

🏉We acknowledge Dan Buckingham for his services to people with disabilities and wheelchair rugby. A former Wheel Black of 16 years, Dan has also played a significant role in the media sector first at Attitude Pictures and now as CE of Able, supporting accessibility across screen content.

🎬We also recognise Chloe Smith, CNZM, for services to the screen industry over a career spanning more than four decades. She has contributed to some of New Zealand’s most iconic productions, including The Piano, The Power of the Dog, and Sione’s Wedding.

These honours reflect the depth of talent, leadership and creativity that continues to shape Aotearoa’s screen and storytelling landscape. The team here at NZ On Air were truly thrilled to see this well-deserved recognition for three of our own. 💙

A huge moment for Aotearoa’s games sector 👏

New Zealand’s game development industry is projected to surpass $1 billion in annual revenue, two years ahead of schedule.

NZ On Air CE Cameron Harland says this reflects the impact of the Game Development Sector Rebate (GDSR) which NZ On Air administers – supporting local studios to grow and compete globally.

“Crossing the $1b mark isn’t just a milestone – it shows what this sector can achieve with the right support behind it.”

We’re proud to be part of this journey, with final figures from the 2026 GDSR to be confirmed later this year.
