Meet Annika! Our new DAAD Representative in Auckland, New Zealand

Hi everyone! 🫶
I'm Annika from Germany, and since July I've been the new DAAD Representative and Professional Teaching Fellow at Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland.
The DAAD connects students and researchers from Aotearoa New Zealand and Germany through exchange programmes and scholarship opportunities.
So if you're thinking about studying in Germany or planning a research stay and looking for funding to support your experience, I'd be happy to help you explore the opportunities available and find a scholarship that's right for you.
I'm excited to connect with you and look forward to hearing from you!

Feel free to get in touch!

🍽️ Step into the storybook charm of Meissen 🇩🇪 Germany - a city where art, history, and culture beautifully intertwine.

🍶 Famous as the birthplace of Europe’s first porcelain, Meissen has been crafting exquisite treasures since the founding of the Meissen Porcelain Factory in 1710. For porcelain lovers and collectors, visiting this historic workshop is an unforgettable experience!

Beyond its world-renowned porcelain, Meissen delights visitors with unique local traditions like the delicate Meissen Fummel pastry - a fragile, hollow pastry puffed up like an air balloon and dusted with sugar - once used to ensure fragile deliveries arrived safely in the 18th century.

Wander through the city’s rich history, admire its stunning architecture, and discover a destination full of timeless charm. Meissen is truly a wonderful place to explore!

This postcard was created as part of a collaborative initiative between the German Embassy Wellington and Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. The project invited students to design postcards as part of their studies under the guidance of Dr Monica Tempian, Senior Lecturer in German at the School of Languages and Cultures.

The German Embassy greatly appreciates this initiative, which highlights the value of language learning, cultural exchange, and the strong connections between Germany and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Cycling culture = a city’s real vibe check 🚲

🇩🇪 Germany: Bike lanes, bike parking, connected routes. Cycling is simply part of the daily routine.

🇳🇿 Aotearoa New Zealand: Breathtaking landscapes, quiet roads, and the chance to ride through everything from mountains, forests to coastlines.

Cycling in New Zealand? Te Ara Tupua is a new walking and cycling connection between and Lower Hutt. It provides a safer, more scenic route for cyclists, encourages active transport, and supports healthier communities while reducing congestion and emissions across the region.

🇸🇬 Singapore: Park connectors and growing cycling paths make getting from A to B feel a little more seamless.

🇮🇩 Indonesia: Gowes culture = weekend group rides, cycling crews, good vibes, and community on two wheels.

🇻🇳 Vietnam: A classic part of street life, now reimagined for fitness, commuting, and seeing the city at a slower pace.

🇵🇭 Philippines: Cycling is a practical way to get around and a movement for safer, more people-first streets.

Different roads, same message: when cities make space for bikes, they make space for cleaner air, safer streets, community, and a better everyday life.

So … what would make you ride more in your city? 👀 German Communication Hub Southeast Asia Auswärtiges Amt Goethe-Institut Neuseeland
