Come watch Afro Brazilian short films with us! (Both subtitled in English)
We will be screening two short films by diegopaulino Diego Paulino: BLACKN3SS (2018) and Paleta de cores (2016).

About Diego:
Filmmaker and screenwriter Diego Paulino was born in Leme, in the state of São Paulo, and it was there that he fell in love with storytelling. Paulino’s work explores issues surrounding the Black diaspora, its fears, and its dreams. His latest short film, the multi-award-winning NEGRUM3, has won over 40 awards and screened at more than 80 festivals across Brazil and around the world. He is currently developing his first feature-length fiction film,“Experiências Incômodas em Dias Nublados,” as well as the series “Fissura,” a finalist in the FRAPA 2025 pilot script competition. His next film, “A Perdição de Lázaro,” is set for a 2026 debut. He is a member of APAN—the Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals—and a partner and executive producer at Reptilia Produções.
Diego received the Paradiso Award for Best Project at Diáspora Lab.

Latin America and the Philippines share the same Spanish colonial wound. Fortunately, our peoples knew how to survive the cultural erasure and invented ways to resist collectively. An example of this is el Día de los Mu***os (the Day of the Dead). 🏵️🕯️

My Tender Matador (Tengo miedo torero), directed by Rodrigo Sepúlveda and based on the novel by Pedro Lemebel, a q***r Chilean poet and artist.

Synopsis:
In 1986 Chile, during the height of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, a platonic love story unfolds between “La Loca del Frente” (Castro)—an aging tr****ti who embarks on a living embroidering tablecloths for military wives in a poor Santiago neighborhood—and young Carlos (Ortizgris), a Mexican guerrilla fighter from the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front. They meet after “La Loca” escapes a nightclub raided by the Chilean police (Carabineros) during a live show, an event that results in the murder of several local transvestites. As the police chase down those fleeing the venue, Carlos, who is loitering nearby, finds and hides her—an act that ultimately leads her to fall in love with the stranger. As days go by, their relationship evolves from a chance encounter into a close friendship, though “La Loca” flirts with him every chance she gets. Eager to keep seeing her “prince,” she begins doing favors for him that will eventually entangle her in the Patriotic Front’s plot to assassinate Pinochet.

Tacos Altos En El Barro (2014). Documentary directed by Rolando Pardo that narrates the lives of tr****ti women of different indigenous communities in what is now know as Salta, Argentina.
Proud of both their indigenous ancestry and their gender identity, they tell us their stories and show us their world.
