Happy ASEAN Day! 🎉

Today marks 59 years since the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

ASEAN is a key contributor to regional stability and economic integration. As a grouping, it’s the world’s fifth largest economy and poised to become the fourth by 2030.

New Zealand’s future is increasingly tied to the success of the Indo-Pacific, and we are proud to be one of ASEAN’s closest partners.

⚠️ Middle East Security Situation

We are concerned that military strikes and retaliatory attacks in the Middle East could escalate, disrupting air travel, closing airspace and border crossings, and stranding New Zealanders in the region.

Travel advice for all countries in the region now carry our highest warnings – either avoid non-essential travel or do not travel under any circumstances. Check SafeTravel for specific warnings for your location and advice on what to do.

If you're currently in an affected area, monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities. Be prepared to shelter in place for an extended period. Ensure you have essential supplies, including food, water, medications, torches and batteries/power banks.

📞 New Zealanders requiring urgent consular assistance can contact the 24/7 Consular Emergency Line on +64 99 20 20 20.
