New Zealand Parliament

New Zealand Parliament This page is run by the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives at Parliament.

The New Zealand Parliament is where matters that affect us all are debated and discussed, laws are made, and the Government is held accountable. We want discussion to be as free and open as possible, but please be aware that we have the right to decide if we think our independent values are being breached. To protect our online community we require everyone to maintain the same standard of friendl

y discussion. This means comments are moderated using the following discussion rules:
- Keep your comments relevant to the discussion topic.
- Do not submit defamatory comments.
- Do not submit comments that could prejudice on-going or forthcoming court proceedings or break a court injunction.
- Do not submit comments containing someone else’s copyright material.
- Do not otherwise submit comments that are unlawful, harassing, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually orientated or racially offensive. This includes comments that are offensive to others with regards to religion, gender, nationality or other personal characteristic.
- Do not advertise or promote products or services.
- Do not spam or flood the forum. You can find NZ Parliament's full social media moderation policy on our website: https://www.parliament.nz/en/footer/website-help/social-media-moderation-policy-for-nz-parliament/

What happens when Parliament comes to the classroom?

Through Tō Whare, Tō Kāinga, Parliament's Education Team, the Electoral Commission, and Mana Mokopuna are helping young people across the Wellington region learn about democracy in action.

From mock elections to debating bills in Parliament-style debates, ākonga at Te Kura o Hau Karetu have been discovering how decisions are made, who represents them, and how they can have their say.
We're proud to help make civics education more accessible for young New Zealanders.

We're excited to be piloting Tō Whare, Tō Kainga in Te Upoko o te Ika a Māui, in partnership with the Electoral Commission and Mana Mokopuna.

Through this new programme, experts visit classrooms to deliver engaging sessions that explore citizenship, democracy, and how our system of government works. Ākonga will discover how they can get involved, share their views, and make their voices heard.

We're delighted to be working with the students of Te Kura o Hau Karetu in the first delivery of Tō Whare, Tō Kainga.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate the aspirations that connect young people around the world.

Rito o te Pāremata is a group of young people who advise the Office of the Clerk and Parliamentary Service on how to better engage with rangatahi across New Zealand. Their perspectives help strengthen the connection between Parliament and young people.
