Meet the newest member of the Pitcairn community.

Police Officer Wayne was sworn in today before beginning a year-long posting to Pitcairn. Seconded from New Zealand Police, they'll spend the next year living and working alongside the Pitcairn community in one of the world's most unique policing roles.

Our thanks to New Zealand Police for their continued support of Pitcairn. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡³πŸ‡³πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ What does it take to run a marathon on one of the world's most remote inhabited islands?

Earlier this month, the Pitcairn Islands hosted their very first marathon, welcoming 12 international runners to compete alongside members of the local community.

The event celebrated spectacular coastal scenery, warm island hospitality and an incredible sense of community, while also showcasing the Pitcairn Islands as a truly unique adventure tourism destination.

πŸ€ Sport has the power to bring people together, inspire leadership and create stronger communities.

Ahead of the Commonwealth Games, we were delighted to host a youth workshop and mini Commonwealth Games at NZCIS - NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport with students from Upper Hutt College, Heretaunga College and New Zealand Performance Academy Aotearoa.

Together, students explored how sport can support mental wellbeing, foster friendship, strengthen communities and more before stepping into leadership roles to run activities for younger students.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was a virtual conversation with Commonwealth Games and Olympic athlete Sarah Cowley-Ross. Sarah shared her experiences as an elite athlete, as well as the opportunities and challenges beyond sport, giving students a unique insight into life after competition. Their thoughtful questions made for an inspiring discussion.

A huge thank you to NZCIS, Basketball New Zealand New Zealand, Upper Hutt College, Heretaunga College, NZ Performance Academy, and especially Sarah Cowley-Ross for sharing her time, honesty and experience. Your support helped make it a memorable day for everyone involved.

We’re pleased to see the UK Defence Investment Plan released, marking a major step towards a Hybrid Royal Navy that blends advanced crewed platforms like the Type 31 Frigate with cutting-edge uncrewed systems.

This shift to autonomy is especially significant for New Zealand, with one of the world’s largest maritime surveillance areas. Uncrewed systems will provide a critical edge in capability and mass, and partnering on future frigates and advanced systems, some potentially homegrown in NZ, will deliver real value. With up to 1,000 jobs and $300m investment on offer for NZ’s maritime ecosystem, this is about mutual prosperity and security. The UK is committed to genuine partnership, ensuring what’s good for NZ is good for the UK. This isn’t just a deal, it’s a proposal between friends. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ€πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

Sport has a remarkable ability to connect people.

In just one week, that meant taking to the netball court with the Parliamentary Ferns for a friendly draw and gathering at the British High Commission this morning to watch Scotland face Brazil at the Men's FIFA World Cup.

Whether participating or spectating, sport creates opportunities to build relationships, strengthen communities and bring people together.

This morning's screening also brought a taste of both teams to Wellington. Guests enjoyed Scottish and Brazilian-inspired food, with our Brazilian Residence Chef helping showcase the cultures behind the match as well as the football on the screen.
That's sport diplomacy in action. πŸβš½πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡³πŸ‡ΏπŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ ΏπŸ‡§πŸ‡·
