π Sport has the power to bring people together, inspire leadership and create stronger communities.
Ahead of the Commonwealth Games, we were delighted to host a youth workshop and mini Commonwealth Games at NZCIS - NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport with students from Upper Hutt College, Heretaunga College and New Zealand Performance Academy Aotearoa.
Together, students explored how sport can support mental wellbeing, foster friendship, strengthen communities and more before stepping into leadership roles to run activities for younger students.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was a virtual conversation with Commonwealth Games and Olympic athlete Sarah Cowley-Ross. Sarah shared her experiences as an elite athlete, as well as the opportunities and challenges beyond sport, giving students a unique insight into life after competition. Their thoughtful questions made for an inspiring discussion.
A huge thank you to NZCIS, Basketball New Zealand New Zealand, Upper Hutt College, Heretaunga College, NZ Performance Academy, and especially Sarah Cowley-Ross for sharing her time, honesty and experience. Your support helped make it a memorable day for everyone involved.
