Wellington Towards 2040: Smart Capital A Vision for a Smart Capital led by Wellington City Council Wellington needs to respond to some big challenges. Standing still is not an option.

Like other cities it is experiencing an ageing population; the need to respond to climate change; increasing resource scarcity; the pace of technological change; and competition to attract skilled and talented people to live and work in the city. Furthermore, Wellington faces this as a small city in a small country at a time when growth and prosperity is becoming increasingly concentrated in large

global cities and city-regions. The status quo will not deliver the future we want for Wellington in the short- or long-term.
