It's Support Staff Week, where we celebrate the contribution of teacher aides, office staff, caretakers and librarians.
Berhampore is lucky to have such a talented and diverse group of support staff, who provide both academic and pastoral care of our diverse tamariki.

The day was overcast and grey, but the atmosphere at today's mihi whakatau was bright. There were a lot of students, whānau and staff to welcome, and as usual the tamariki sang beautifully.
Welcome to Berhampore School!

Kia ora e te whānau,

In anticipation of the State of Emergency in Wellington City easing on Wednesday, the Board of Trustees has made the decision that our school will safely reopen tomorrow. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our tamariki back through the gates.

While the weather is settling, we know that the impact of this extreme event is far from over. I want to take a moment to deeply acknowledge the families in our community who have been displaced by the severe flooding, as well as those who are dealing with lost or damaged property. Please know that our thoughts are with you as you navigate this stressful and difficult recovery period. Our school is here to support you in whatever way we can.

I also want to express my sincere gratitude to our entire school community. Thank you for your patience and acceptance of the sudden disruptions and school closure over the past few days. Above all, I want to thank you for the incredible outpouring of kindness we have seen. The sheer number of messages we have received from people offering help, resources, and support to those impacted by the storm has been truly heartwarming.

Important Updates for Tomorrow Morning:
Forest Pathway Closed: We ask that absolutely no one use the 'forest' pathway to access the school tomorrow morning. Our grounds team needs time to thoroughly assess the track and clear any branches or storm debris to ensure it is safe before we open it back up to students.
Flexible Drop-off Times: Because rain is still forecast for tomorrow morning, we want to help everyone arrive safely without the usual morning rush. We are offering flexible drop-off times, and the school gates will remain open until 9:10 am. Please take your time and travel safely.
As we open our doors tomorrow, our priority will be providing a safe, warm, and comforting environment for all our students.

Kia kaha, and we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Ngā mihi nui,

Mark Potter

Kia ora e te whānau,

Please read this important message regarding an immediate school closure on Tuesday, 21st April.

Due to the current Red Rain Warning and the declared State of Emergency in Wellington City, the Board of Trustees has made the decision to close the school again. This decision is in strict accordance with official advice from local authorities, who are urging everyone to stay at home unless travel is absolutely unavoidable.

As many of you are already aware, our suburb sustained substantial storm damage during last night's severe weather event. With conditions remaining dangerous, our absolute priority is to keep our students, staff, and wider school community safe.

Furthermore, it is critical that we keep the streets clear. Staying home ensures that emergency response teams and essential workers can navigate the roads safely and respond to those in need without unnecessary traffic or hazards.

We know that weather events like this can be incredibly stressful and devastating. If your family has been heavily impacted by the storm damage, please let us know. While our physical school gates are closed, our school community remains connected. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if there is anything we can do to assist you or your whānau during this difficult time.

Please stay home, avoid travel, and prioritize the safety of your whānau.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in contact with the Ministry of Education and local civil defence authorities. We will provide a further update on when the school will safely reopen as soon as the weather systems have passed and the authorities advise it is safe to do so.

Kia kaha, stay warm, and please look after one another.

Ngā mihi nui,

Mark Potter

Due to the severe rain event experienced this morning,

the board of trustees, in consultation with the principal have decided to close the school for today.

The advice from WREMO is to stay of the streets to keep them clear emergency services.

Staff will also be avoiding travel and staying at home.

We will update everyone later today about school for tomorrow.

Keep yourself safe with the flooding causing some evacuations.

Kia ora Berhampore followers. Our first mihi whakatau of 2026 went off without a hitch. Being Term 1, there were a lot of new students and whānau, but we squeezed into the hall to avoid the possibility of rain.
The students performed fantastically, especially considering there was no chance to practice. We look forward to a great year!
