United States SailGP Team doesn’t just race fast - this video captures the mindset behind it. 🇺🇸

From split-second decisions at 100km/h to pushing through brutal Auckland conditions, the team’s message is clear: champions are built on work ethic, resilience, and the willingness to keep pushing when things get tough.

“Hearing that anthem, you think about all the people that came before us… those that fight and have lost, but will always put America first.”

The U.S. SailGP Team brought that mentality to the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix earlier this year, battling huge gusts, dramatic moments on the Waitematā Harbour, and one of SailGP’s toughest race courses, which included a race win.

As America approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, Freedom250 celebrates the drive, innovation, determination, and spirit of excellence that continue to push Americans forward, on the water and beyond.

Ideas, innovation, and entrepreneurship were on the agenda as Consul General Melissa Sweeney welcomed founders, investors, and business leaders from the Electrify Aotearoa conference and AmCham Women in Business to the Consul General’s Residence.

As we celebrate Freedom 250 and 250 years of American independence, we reflected on the role innovation has played in driving economic growth, creating opportunity, and solving challenges - from the founding of the United States to the next generation of entrepreneurs building the future.

The United States and New Zealand share a strong tradition of innovation, and we look forward to continuing partnerships that support founders, strengthen commercial ties, and create new opportunities for collaboration across our innovation ecosystems.

Great conversations, fresh ideas, and strong connections at our Freedom250 Alumni Reception in Auckland last week 🇺🇸🇳🇿

Consul General Melissa Sweeney welcomed alumni from U.S. State Department exchange programs, alongside partners including Fulbright New Zealand and Eisenhower Fellowships, to celebrate the people-to-people ties that continue to strengthen the U.S.–New Zealand relationship.

The evening highlighted the 250th anniversary on the United States, new opportunities through the Mission’s grants program, and the important role alumni networks play in driving innovation, education, leadership, and community connections across New Zealand.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, we’re excited to work with alumni and partners across New Zealand to celebrate shared stories, shared values, and the enduring connections between our countries. 🇺🇸🇳🇿
