Last week, we responded to a structure fire that we knew had the potential to become serious very quickly. πŸš’πŸ”₯Thanks to the incredible response from our volunteers, our first appliance was out the door in just 3 minutes, with our second following not long after. πŸ‘ Every minute counts, and that quick response made a real difference.
We were also grateful for the support of our neighbouring brigades from Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade, Featherston Volunteer Fire Brigade - Station 63, Masterton Composite Fire Brigade, and Remutaka Operational Support Unit. Working together as one team helped save much of the property, and we're incredibly proud of what was achieved. ❀️
The icing on the cake this week has been receiving these wonderful thank you cards from Greytown School. πŸ₯° Your kind words, colourful drawings, and even the mentions of your favourite firefighters brought some very big smiles to the station! It means more to us than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to brighten our week. Your support reminds us why we do what we do. β€οΈπŸš’

Best of luck to Ken for the next two days at the United Fire Brigades' Association of NZ Driver's Challenge in Manfield in the Manawatu πŸš’

A competent and capable driver, Ken will be representing Carterton as the only attendee from our brigade, taking on a number of driving challenges over the next two days. It's no easy task taking on the challenge solo, but we're proud to have him flying the Carterton flag.

Gates open at 9:00am. If you're in the area, come along and show your support!

πŸš’ July Call Statistics πŸš’

July was another busy month for our volunteers, responding to 24 callouts across the Carterton district.

While alarm activations made up over half of our callouts, every response is treated seriously and professionally, ensuring the safety of our community and assisting those in need day or night.

A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers who continue to give their time, leave their families and workplaces, and answer the call whenever the tones drop. We also appreciate the ongoing support from our employers, families, and the Carterton community.

Earlier this month we held our Annual General Meeting.

We reflected on the past year of calls and achievements within the Brigade.

Over the 12 months from July 2025 - June 2026 we attended 326 calls, an increase on the previous year of 45 calls.

The Brigade participated in several events over the year, including Daffodil day open day, Food Bank drive, ANZAC day parade. We also held a Motorbike trail ride in February as part of raising funds towards our 150 year celebrations in 2028, and a Quiz night in April.

We ran two waterways teams in competitions over the Summer, with both teams placing well. This also saw Wayne Robinson complete his last season of waterways after 45 seasons!

Members have also trained for and attended Stair climbs at the Sky tower along with the Firefighter Combat Challenge and the National golf tournament.

We also recognised two of our members with trophies (Pictured)-

πŸ†Wayne Robinson with the attendance cup. This is presented for attending the most musters throughout the year.

πŸ†Kylie Elwin with the Life Members Trophy - This is presented to a member that goes above and beyond within the brigade.

πŸš’ June 2026 Call Stats πŸš’

June kept Carterton busy, with our volunteers turning out 24 times during the month.

The end of June was particularly wet, which contributed to several weather-related callouts as crews responded to incidents across the district. Alongside these, the crew attended a variety of calls including structure fires, alarm activations, motor vehicle accidents, medical responses, hazardous substance incidents, a vegetation fire, and other fire-related events.

A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers who respond day and night, in all weather conditions, to help keep our community safe.

We also extend our appreciation to our families, employers and the public for their ongoing support.
