🚒Things that change when you become a firefighter… Part 3 🔥

💇‍♀️ Your hairstyle choices change!

Those big fancy up-dos might look amazing… but they don’t work so well under a helmet! 😂

Firefighter helmets need to fit properly and securely, so practical hairstyles become the new normal. Goodbye elaborate hairstyles… hello ponytails, braids and anything that fits safely under your gear! 🚒

A massive congratulations to Bevan Morland, Jacqui Morland and The Offering - Greytown on their win this week.

Jacqui and Bevan are massive supporters of the brigade and do a lot for our team.

Just last week we proudly received several hundred coffee ☕️ vouchers for our members to use 😯. Today the Offering provided our team with lunch for our first aid refresher - all done with minimal fuss and plenty of pride.

Please join us in congratulating them on this amazing win and for all the good they do in the community.

🔥 Dry clothes safely this winter! 🧺

It’s tempting to put clothes, towels or blankets near a fire or heater to help them dry faster — items placed too close can overheat and become a fire risk. 🔥
Keep laundry at a safe distance, use a proper drying rack, and never leave drying clothes unattended.
Stay warm and stay safe! ❤️🚒

🚒 Congratulations Nadene Hawley! 🎉

Nadene took her pump operator course earlier this year and has recently passed her Emergency Response Driver (ERD) course. So, she's good to go when the siren sounds. It's great to have another driver on the team.

Great work Nadene and thanks to the trainers. Welcome to the driver’s seat! 🚒👏

🚒 Could Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade be Volunteer Fire Brigade of the Year?

The UFBA is looking for nominations, so we thought ask you what you think. Could GVFB be Volunteer Fire Brigade of the Year?
If you’ve had a reason to appreciate our brigade — at an emergency, community event, school visit, fire safety event, or simply for being there when needed — we’d love you to tell the UFBA why.
We’re proud of our team, but we’ll leave it to our community to decide if we’re award-worthy! 😊
If you think we deserve a nomination, it only takes a few minutes. No pressure — but we’d be very grateful for your support! ❤️🚒

Let's talk about keeping our smoke alarms clean and healthy!
Smoke alarms tend to sit forgotten on the ceiling, until they go off!
To keep your smoke alarms working properly and avoid those annoying false alarms here's a few tips:
Test monthly - To ensure they're actually working, test your smoke alarm once a month - It's easy - Press the button to test
At least every six months - Give your smoke alarm a vacuum while you're doing the floors - This helps remove dust and insects that can cause false alarms.
Every 12 months - Check the expiry date of your alarm and for alarms with a 9v battery, replace the battery. (even the ones with 9v batteries expire after 10 years)
If you're having problems with your smoke alarm going off with no smoke, check the following -
🚒Check the alarm is clean from dust.
🚒Look for signs of moisture (Condensation in the alarm can set it off)
🚒Check for small insects in / around the alarm.

Our very own Harry Howard is part of this contingent. Bon voyage Harry!

Today a large contingent of firefighters deployed to the north-west of the United States of America to support the country’s wildfire response.

This Fire and Emergency New Zealand lead deployment is supported by our partner agencies. Of the 57 deployed personnel leaving this week, 43 are from Fire and Emergency, 4 from Department of Conservation, 5 from Forestry Companies and 5 from New Zealand Defence Force.

Each person has been chosen for their specialist skills, the firefighters are experienced working in arduous conditions, including steep terrain and high temperatures in remote areas. The team will be taking on multiple roles from firefighting, helibase managers, logistics, liaison officers and chainsaw specialists provided by DOC and Forestry.

Two other deployments are already on the ground in the US and Canada, with five Incident Management personnel working on fires in Washington State and Oregon and six in British Columbia.

Kia kaha to our people and our American whānau, you have our support ❤️

Last week, we responded to a structure fire that we knew had the potential to become serious very quickly. 🚒🔥Thanks to the incredible response from our volunteers, our first appliance was out the door in just 3 minutes, with our second following not long after. 👏 Every minute counts, and that quick response made a real difference.
We were also grateful for the support of our neighbouring brigades from Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade, Featherston Volunteer Fire Brigade - Station 63, Masterton Composite Fire Brigade, and Remutaka Operational Support Unit. Working together as one team helped save much of the property, and we're incredibly proud of what was achieved. ❤️
The icing on the cake this week has been receiving these wonderful thank you cards from Greytown School. 🥰 Your kind words, colourful drawings, and even the mentions of your favourite firefighters brought some very big smiles to the station! It means more to us than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to brighten our week. Your support reminds us why we do what we do. ❤️🚒

You start parking facing the right direction for a quick getaway…
