The final tally is in, and we're proud to share that our team raised $5,571 for Blood Cancer New Zealand!
Thank you to everyone who donated, supported, encouraged, and cheered us on. Every contribution helped, and together we've played a small part in the amazing nationwide total of $2,519,153.17.
We're incredibly grateful for the support of our community. Thank you for helping make a difference.

May was a very quiet month for the brigade, with just 4 callouts compared with 19 in May last year. Things were so quiet that we even tested the station siren last week!
Unfortunately, June has started with a few callouts. Be safe out there everyone πŸ˜€

We helped out our colleagues in Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade yesterday at an unusual call. It's a timely reminder to make sure your ashes are cold before you dispose of them.

Order, method and neatness matter in what we do (Poirot would be proud!). It might seem like a small thing, but when you’re arriving at a job, it makes a big difference not having to hunt around for gear or second-guess where anything is.
In the photo, you can see our car cutting gear laid out on a tarpaulin β€” everything checked, laid out, and ready to go.

We've recently started playing indoor bowls once a week and it was great to spend some time together socially outside of trainings and callouts. 🎳
It was especially nice to have our partners join us as well for a relaxed evening filled with plenty of laughs, a bit of friendly competition, and good company. ❀️
A strong brigade is built not just on teamwork at incidents, but also on the friendships and support behind the scenes.
And who knows… maybe we’ve got a few future bowls champions in the making! πŸ˜„πŸ†

One last shout-out from the Skytower Challenge Team to ❀️ πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ for the use of their stair master during the dark evenings πŸŒ™. It's so much nicer than training outside! It was also a great way to catch up with our colleagues from Carterton Fire Brigade SkyTower Team.

We are all incredibly proud of Mike, Nadene and Shelley. Yesterday, they climbed 51 floors of the Skytower with times ranging from 13.5 minutes to under 22 minutes and helped raise money for Blood Cancer NZ. All of that training was worth it!

⏰ In just 24 hours, the Greytown SkyTower Challenge team (Mike, Nadene and Shelley) will be taking on the iconic Sky Tower to raise funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand ❀️
Our team is expected to start climbing at around 1pm Saturday and you can watch all the action live here https://www.youtube.com/live/mGdysSQYNFI

The team would like to thank everyone who has helped make this journey possible:

Steve Perry from Village Shuttles Greytown for getting the team to Auckland and collecting them from Wellington Airport β€” we really appreciate your support! 🚌
To everyone who has helped our team train over the past months β€” and there are so many of you β€” thank you for giving your time, encouragement, and support.πŸ’ͺ
To everyone who has donated to Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, thank you for helping support such an important cause. ❀️
To our amazing local community, thank you for getting behind the team and cheering them on every step of the way.
Most importantly, thank you to the families who have sacrificed time together so the team could train and prepare as well as they have.
And finally, thank you to the team’s partners β€” Andrew, Craig, and Phillippa β€” for being there at the finish line to support them after what will no doubt be an incredible achievement. πŸ—ΌπŸ”₯

Our crew recently practised getting suited up in hazmat gear β€” learning how to safely put on, check and work in the specialised equipment used for hazardous substance incidents. 🦺
And just as importantly, how to go through the decontamination process and safely remove the suits afterwards. It's hot sweaty work being inside one of those suits!
