A delegation led by the Kingdom of Tongaโ€™s Lord Privy Seal and Secretary for Diplomatic Services, H.E. Viliami Malolo, recently met with Sri Lankaโ€™s High Commissioner, Prasanna Gamage, at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Wellington. The visit aimed to learn from Sri Lankaโ€™s experience in establishing its diplomatic mission in New Zealand, as the Kingdom of Tonga prepares to reopen its embassy in Wellington.

High Commissioner Gamage shared insights on Mission establishment, covering logistics, key roles of local line agencies, and assistance received from New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) alongside the broader diplomatic community. H.E. Malolo expressed gratitude for the guidance and requested ongoing cooperation.

Facilitated by Ms. Kerrianne Joe, Senior Policy Adviser at MFAT, the Tongan delegation also included Ms. Toakase Palelei, Deputy Secretary of Corporate Services, and Ms. Otoโ€™ Ota Aho, Assistant Secretary of Diplomatic Services.

Prasanna Gamage, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka visited Data Torque office in Wellington and met with Mr. Vernon Kay, CEO and other senior executives. Data Torque is a leading IT company in New Zealand, which has operations in more than 20 countries, and specialises in tax collection procedures and transformation
strategies. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to explore potential partnerships and collaboration opportunities in Sri Lanka for Data Torque.

High Commissioner Gamage briefed the Data Torque management of the current economic, political, and other important developments in Sri Lanka, and the flourishing bilateral relations between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. He also explained Sri Lankaโ€™s world renowned and robust IT sector and opportunities available for overseas businesses in that sector.

The High Commissioner also met with the Sri Lankan IT experts employed at Data Torque and exchanged views on the sector, opportunities, and potential areas for further enhancement.

Ambassador Samina Naz, High Commissionerโ€“designate of Bangladesh to New Zealand, recently met with High Commissioner Prasanna Gamage at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Wellington. The High Commission of Bangladesh in Wellington will be the latest addition to the diplomatic community in New Zealand.

During the meeting, High Commissionerโ€“designate Naz and High Commissioner Gamage exchanged views on Sri Lankaโ€“Bangladesh bilateral relations, the official and logistical procedures relating to the establishment of a diplomatic Mission in Wellington, and other matters of mutual importance.

High Commissioner Gamage conveyed his greetings and best wishes to his new South Asian colleague on her appointment, and wished her every success in establishing the new Bangladeshi Mission in Wellington.

High Commissioner Prasanna Gamage recently met with Mr. Pancha Narayanan, National President of Multicultural New Zealand (MNZ), in Wellington.
