Parental leave payments are increasing from 1 July 2026.

• The maximum weekly payment will increase from $788.66 to $811.05.
• The minimum weekly payment will increase from $235.00 to $239.50.

Parental leave payments are weekly payments for a continuous period of up to 26 weeks to support people who are taking time off work to care for a new child. These payments are made by Inland Revenue.

The payments are government-funded, but employers can also provide employer-funded payments as part of your employment agreement.
