Our Tairāwhiti Māori Wardens showing their new gears to do their mahi across the region. Our mahi is always full on so it’s always good to have clothing that enables us to do our mahi - aroha ki te tangata.

Enjoying each others company as we continue and listen more about what is being done across the six regions as part of the set up of Ngā Wātene Māori o Aotearoa Charitable Trust. Aroha ki te tangata is a theme that continues to be central to our mahi.

Over the last four months Māori have lost a number of leaders who are irreplacable. This morning Whānau Waipareira suffered the loss of one of its great leaders Uncle Jack Taumaunu.

His whānau are a Waipareira foundation whānau and a backbone whānau of Waipareira,
Hoani Waititi, Māori Wardens, Māori Womens Welfare League, Kapahaka stalwarts, Rutherford High School cultural kaiako. You name it in regard to advancing our Māori peoples cause in West Auckland and the Taumaunu Whānau have always been there.

Uncle Jack gave tirelessly and relentlessly of himself to our whānau at the expense of his own tamariki and it is this relentless service to our peoples cause that he will be very sorely missed.

In another year marked by Covid-19, one community came together to protect and educate their hapori. In alignment with their own perspectives and community values, they developed an innovative campaign to vaccinate their people and create social unity including one of our very own Māori Wardens

Congratulations to Matakaoa Community the winners of the 2022 Mitre 10 New Zealand Community of the Year Ngā Pou Whirinaki o te Tau!

Before 2021 draws to a close, lets take a look back at one of the major highlights of the Maori Wardens Calendar- the national conference! 😍Here are some pics taken back in late May by the conference's official photographer, Adrian Heke. Adrian snapped heaps of awesome pics at the hui in Palmerston North. Here are just a few! To look at all the photos, go to the Albumns page and go through the albumns that have just been uploaded. 📷🙌
