Her Excellency the Cook Islands High Commissioner, Ms Kairangi Samuela, was delighted to receive a courtesy call from the High Commissioner-designate of India to the Cook Islands, Her Excellency Ms Muanpuii Saiawi.

During their meeting, the two High Commissioners reflected on the warm and longstanding relationship between the Cook Islands and India and discussed opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation including ongoing grant funding support for community projects as well as capacity building opportunities in India.

The Cook Islands and India established diplomatic relations in 1998, and this year marks 28 years of close and friendly ties between the two nations.

Her Excellency Ms Kairangi Samuela extended her best wishes for Ms Saiawiโ€™s tenure and conveyed her confidence in the continued growth of the partnership and friendship between the Cook Islands and India.

The High Commissioner, Her Excellency Ms Kairangi Samuela together with members of the Diplomatic Corp was pleased to attend the opening of the High Commission of the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka High Commission in Wellington this morning.

The event was also marked by the visit of the Sri Lanka Minister of Foreign Affairs the Honourable Mr Vijitha Herath to New Zealand for the first time. The Cook Islands and Sri Lanka are currently in discussions to establish and formalise Diplomatic Relations.

The High Commissioner extends her congratulations to His Excellency Mr. Prasanna Gamage and his staff for opening their High Commission in Wellington.

Cook Islands High Commissioner Her Excellency Ms Kairangi Samuela was pleased to meet with the Ministry of Marine Resources officials from across the Pacific at the welcome event hosted by Minister for Primary Industries, Hon. Shane Jones at Parliament in Wellington on Monday 11 May 2026.

Representing the Cook Islands were Secretary of Marine Resources Ms Pamela Maru, Director Fisheries Offshore Division Mr Lualua Tua-Trood, Cook Islands Deputy High Commissioner Ms Amelia Fukofuka-Murare.

The 142nd Annual Officials meeting of the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC142) brings together senior fisheries officials from 17 pacific nations with a focus on strengthening regional fisheries cooperation, tuna management, and maritime surveillance, including discussions on the Niue treaty subsidiary agreement.

The Cook Islands High Commission was pleased to attend the closing ceremony celebrating the successful completion of the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Public Sector Leadership โ€“ Senior Level Programme by Daniel Fisher of the Cook Islands Tourism Corporation.

Over the past two weeks, Daniel joined 12 other senior public sector leaders from across 9 Pacific Island nations in Wellington, New Zealand, undertaking an intensive leadership programme focused on strategic leadership, ethics, resilience, communication, governance, and public sector development.

The programme, delivered through Kฤpuhipuhi Wellington Uni-Professional and supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, provided an opportunity for Pacific leaders to strengthen regional relationships, share experiences, and build leadership capability for the future.

The Cook Islands High Commissioner, Her Excellency Ms Kairangi Samuela, was delighted to welcome Thailandโ€™s Ambassador-designate, His Excellency Mr Mongkol Visitstump, for a courtesy call.

During their meeting, they discussed areas where the Cook Islands and Thailand can enhance cooperation, particularly through exchanges of specialists in health and business product development. They also noted opportunities for both countries to learn from each otherโ€™s experiences.

His Excellency expressed his interest in visiting the Cook Islands later this year to present his credentials.

The Cook Islands and the Kingdom of Thailand established diplomatic relations in 2005, and this year marks 21 years of the relationship.

The Cook Islands High Commission team were delighted to take part in a community event hosted by the Nukuroa Community at Te Akapuanga Hall in Porirua over the weekend. It was a pleasure for the CIHC team to connect with Te Marae Ora / Whitireia nursing students currently studying in Wellington, as well as the wider Nukuroa community. Meitaki ranuinui for the warm hospitality.
