B O O K W E E K| 📕📗📒 This week at Tomarata School we have had our annual Scholastic Book Fair, which culminates in our Friday Book Character Parade. This year was really special, with great costumes from staff and students alike. The main aim of the week is to get kids excited about reading, which I know we have achieved.
We also had an art competition, and classes decorated their doors in the theme of Enchanted Forests.
Over the week we have sold over $2000 worth of books, which all helps us raise funds for our Library, as well as giving our students opportunities to increase their reading skills.
Thank you to everyone who has helped out, especially Heather our awesome Office Manager, and Stephen, who helped out with the character parade judging!

R O D N E Y R U R A L S C H O O L S T A B L O I D S P O R T S D A Y | Yesterday, we were joined by our friends at Tauhoa School, Tapora School, Pakiri School, TKKM o Ngaringaomatariki, and the home school network for a day of fun activities for our junior students. The rain stayed away to allow us all to enjoy a great day of friendship, excercise and fun!
A huge thank you to our staff, and parent helpers, who helped make the day a huge success. Also, thank you to our amazing PTA, who provided the lunch.

A N Z A C D A Y | 🇳🇿
Kia ora koutou,

This Saturday, the 25th of April is ANZAC Day. To commemorate this important date, Tomarata School will be hosting a ceremony at the war memorial located at the front of the school.

So that we don't clash with the Wellsford RSA service, we will start at 8am.

Everyone is welcome to join us as we remember those who have served our country during times of war.

If anyone would like to say a few words, there will be a time in the service for community members to speak.

C O L O U R F U N R U N | 🏃‍♀️🤸🏃This afternoon we gathered together as a school community to participate in the Monty the Monster Colour Fun Run. This has been a major fundraiser, as we continue to raise money for our playground upgrade.
The weather was just right and the students were so excited.
A huge thank you to all of our amazing staff and parent helpers who helped make the event run so smoothly.
It was a lovely way to end the term.

M E E T T H E T E A C H E R \ P I Z Z A E V E N I N G | 🍕🍕🍕 Tomarata School has gotten off to a great start to 2026, and what a way to celebrate! Thank you so much to all of the people who contributed to the success of this annual "Meet the Teacher/Pizza evening" event. It was so heartwarming to see so many new families joining our amazing kura, and to see all of the familiar faces of our wonderful parent community back for another action packed year.
A huge thank you to Josh, for making all of the pizza bases and sauce, and for running the pizza oven.
It was a great turnout, with the sun shining, music playing and friendly chatter. Our students did a lovely job of our waiata, helped along by whaea Jazz, and our incredible team of teachers.

T A W H A R A N U I V I S I T | 🌞🐦‍⬛🚎 Today, Rooms 4 and 5 went on an adventure to Tawharanui Regional Park, to visit the Tawharanui Open Sanctuary Society Inc. We learnt about our native birds, insects, lizards and plants, as well as the introduced pests that threaten them. It was an awesome day, made possible by the team of volunteers at the Open Sanctuary. Our bus was paid for by a friend of the volunteers, so the whole day cost the school nothing, which is a lovely bonus for the end of the year. A huge thank you to all of our parent and grandparent helpers.
Tomorrow, the fun continues as we set off for a day of surf and sand with the team at Aotearoa Surf. 🤙🌞🏄‍♀️

C A R E T A K E R W A N T E D |😃🦺🛠️ Tomarata School is looking for an energetic, motivated, and skilled person to take on the important role of school caretaker. Ideally, we are looking for someone who has high personal standards, and cares about making Tomarata School look its best. Having an eye for detail will also help ensure that the school is safe and well maintained for our students, staff and visitors.

The successful applicant should have a New Zealand driver’s license and have experience working with garden and lawn maintenance tools like a ride on lawnmower, w**d eater, hedge trimmer etc. You will need to be able to work under direction from our leadership team but also self-manage with a view to keeping our school running on a day to day basis.

You will be responsible for maintaining the school grounds and ensuring that the environment is safe for everyone at school. You will need computer skills to access our school hazard register. Regular school property checks are also part of the job.

Knowledge and experience in maintaining a swimming pool is also an advantage.

The job is a permanent, part-time position for around 10 hours each week. Pay rates for school caretakers start at around $26 per hour, but will vary, depending on the applicant.

C A M P B E N T Z O N | Day 5. The final day.
Our last day was all about getting organised for our trip back to school. Packing our bags, sweeping and tidying our bunk rooms etc. We'll done everyone!
Thank you to Erin, Peter and Elliot for hosting us at the awesome Camp Bentzon. Our students represented Tomarata School's GROW values with pride for the entire week. Erin was really impressed by how well everyone participated on all of the activities, and said that we left the camp tidier than when we arrived. I didn't see a single piece of litter all week.
Well done Tomarata School. And thank you very much to our awesome teachers!
To our parent helpers, nga mihi nui! We couldn't have done it without you. You were absolutely amazing.
