❓Clearing out your linen cupboard? Help our pound dogs stay warm this winter 🐶

Do you have any blankets suitable for dog bedding?

❄ We are looking for anything fleece or woollen to keep our pound dogs warm on these cold days. We also need towels.

We are happy to collect these items from you if necessary, or they can be dropped to BDC's offices in Brougham Street during office hours: 8:30 am - 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Thank you for helping keep our less fortunate dogs warm this winter 🐾

🐾 Lost dog found today near Cape Foulwind

An entire male Huntaway dog with a red collar was found roaming on Cape Foulwind Road at 1:30 pm today near the intersection of Bradshaws Road. He appears elderly.

If you recognise this well-mannered soul, or know who he belongs to, please contact Buller District Council Animal Management on 0800 807 239.

Olive is here to remind you to pay your dog registration and pick up your blue tag to avoid a penalty.

🐶 Prices this year are:
🦴 Desexed $69.50
🦴 Entire $89.50

Olive prefers the comforts of home, but if you use your dog principally for herding or droving stock, your dog is eligible for our working dog rate:

🐾 Desexed $52.50
🐾 Entire $67.50

To pay and pick up your blue tag, call into our Council offices in Westport or Reefton.

🦴 Dog registration 2024/25 is underway now.

📫 Your dog needs to be registered in Buller so we can contact you and send you your registration form each year.

🚶 To register your dog, or pay for your 2024/25 registration and pick up your new tag, contact our Customer Service teams by dropping in to Council's offices in Westport or Reefton.

📢 Media Release: Time for Buller dog owners to prepare for registration 2024/25

🐕 Buller dog owners who have previously registered their dogs in the district will soon receive their dog registration forms in the mail, towards the end of June.

🐾 Once owners receive their form, they can call into council’s offices in Westport or Reefton to pay the appropriate registration fee and pick up their new tag, which is blue this year.

📝 If your contact information, or your dog’s details have changed, this information can be updated when you pay your dog registration fee.

💲 Prices this year remain the same as 2023/24: desexed $69.50, entire $89.50. If you use your dog principally for herding or droving stock, it is eligible for the working dog rate: desexed $52.50, entire $67.50.

📅 Dog registration is due by 31 July 2024.

🐾 SPCA Snip 'n' Chip cat desexing programme available in Reefton

😿 Each year the SPCA receives thousands of unwanted cats and kittens at their centres.

📉 The SPCA would like to work together with the community to help stop the cat population growing.

📅 $30 speying, neutering and microchipping for cats in Reefton is being offered by the SPCA until 31 August 2024 - bookings are now open.

🐈 Cat owners must live in postcodes 7830, 7871 or 7895 to be eligible for this campaign.

❌ A Community Services or Gold Card is NOT needed.
✔️ This campaign is for cats only.
✔️ There is a limit of 10 cats per owner.
✔️ The desexing takes place at a local vet clinic, and $30 (per cat) is paid to the vet clinic on or before the day of surgery.
✔️ Once owners have registered, they will receive an automatic email with the voucher number(s).

Desexing is good for you and your cat. A speyed or neutered cat:

😺 Can be more affectionate and friendly
😽 Is less likely to spray and mark their territory in your house.
🐱 Is less likely to yowl loudly throughout the night.

😺 Lives a longer and healthier life.
😻 Has reduced risk of health problems such as cancer.
