APPRECIATION POST | COMMUNITY LEARNING IN ACTION

More than 200 people joined us across three Mind Over Manner Community Workshops held here in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Whānau, educators, social sector practitioners, health and wellbeing workers, and members of our wider community came together to learn more about neurodiversity and different ways of understanding behaviour, sensory needs and learning.

Using the power of theatre and some exceptional actors, Mind Over Manner gave us a chance to see things through a different lens.

And the kōrero afterwards said plenty:

💬 “Was a bit emotional, exceptional actors.”
💬 “I’ve been struggling with one boy I work with, so it was nice to be reassured.”
💬 “F*ing amazing. Even had a cry.”
💬 “I could see so many of the ‘naughty kids’ we grew up with in the characters.”
💬 “I really now can appreciate the focus on what my boys love and learning around that.”

This is why investment in local community learning matters. It means bringing quality opportunities into our rohe, removing cost as a barrier, and giving the people surrounding our tamariki and rangatahi more understanding, confidence and practical ways to respond.

200+ people. Three workshops. One community learning together.

A huge mihi to everyone who came along and to those who helped make this opportunity possible.

"We've seen a huge increase in my moko's confidence since being with EPF. She has learned to interect more postively with others and has had opportunites to build freindships and develop her social skills. EPF gave her the time space and positive experiences that has helped her to grow”

When whānau are actively involved in their tamariki’s learning, it builds positive connections and confidence around learning. That’s why our Engaging Priority Families (EPF) service supports whānau not attending early learning - to help get them ready.

Mātauranga Māori is one of the world's oldest knowledge systems - grounded in observation, innovation, and a deep understanding of the natural world.

Like STEMM, it encourages curiosity and critical thinking to understand and care for our environment. That’s why our STEMM education programmes across the Eastern Bay engage students at every level.
