A friend of mine was in a pub a while back, when a bunch of hefty lads walked in. They looked quite athletic so she got chatting and asked if they played any kind of sport. Turned out they were the All Blacks! Whilst I can boast a similar low level of sporting knowledge, I do know there is a test match on this Sunday morning. It is Father’s Day after all, so I think it would be best to leave Dad in peace to watch the replay and come down to the Sunday Market for a while. You might even find a last minute gift. How about a selection of historical and new rugby (and cricket) books – what could be better?! Kevin will be back this week to sharpen all your knives, scissors and garden tools, Ray has avo’s, kawakawa balm and vege seedlings, a new bunch of golf club toasting forks are ready for the brazier and we’ll have lovely crafts and 2nd hand treasures. And Whanga’s first ever OOSHIE swap meet will be happening! Remember your e-waste for Helen, 10 – 11am and your nimble fingers for the piano. See you there!

Remember, it's the 5th Sunday of the month, so no market this weekend, but not long till we're weekly again. Helen will still be in her usual spot this Sunday (10 - 11am) however, so you can bring your e-waste, tetrapaks, polystyrene and lids for her to take for recycling - brought to you by the Whangamata Resource Recovery Trust! Don't forget a donation for the e-waste. Thank you and see you on the 6th!

As our winter markets are the 1st and 3rd Sundays and August has 5 Sundays, we will be having 2 weeks off. Clear as mud?!! So will see you on September 6th all bright eyed and bushy tailed! Remember that Helen will still be at her usual spot from 10 till 11am every Sunday, so you can bring your e-waste, tetrapaks, clean polystyrene, plastic lids, all for recycling. And remember a few coins for a donation if you're bringing e-waste. She also has a "shop" open from 12 till 2pm at the Casement Rd storage units where you can buy electrical gear that has been tested and tagged, plus other bits and pieces. It's all go!

Whilst dabbling in bee-keeping long ago, I went to see a man about some bees and was unceremoniously stung by a bee that had flown up my nose. Pretending to ignore the freight train of pain heading up my face, and trying not to cry, I felt an odd mixture of personal violation and immense gratitude when the man, without hesitation, stuck his finger up my nose and hooked the bee out. It was a chivalrous act. Ya don’t get blokes like that anymore! Luckily, I can now buy my honey from a local bee-keeper at the Sunday Market. Anita has a range of flavours and can tell you all about the wonderful world of bees, without whom we’d all be dead. The weather’s looking iffy for Sunday but can guarantee Avo’s (10 for $5), Claire’s swirlstones, golf club toasting forks, books, plants, garden art, fruit & veg, 2nd hand treasures and, of course, Helen from 10 – 11am to collect your e-waste. See you there!

No market this Sunday but just a a reminder that Helen will still be down there from 10am to 11am to collect your e-waste, tetrapaks, clean polystyrene and small plastic lids. If you're dropping off e-waste make sure to give her a few coins (or a bit more for a large TV!) as there are costs in transporting waste to the recycling facilities. A service brought to you by the Whangamata Resource Recovery Trust! See you all on the 16th for our next market.

For those of us who celebrate such things, constant reminders of “x” weeks/days left till Christmas can be a little irritating. So, here at the Sunday Market, we’ll get it over with early, never to be mentioned again - there are only 147 days left till Christmas! We also know that, whether you do “secret Santa” or individual gift giving, good gifts take time and it never ends well if left till the last minute (just ask the person who received the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy complete with fluffy handcuffs…). So come down this Sunday and keep an eye out for that special thing you can stash for later. By the time those 147 days are up you’ll be sorted! And don’t be afraid to gift a second hand item – they’re the unique ones. This week, as well as 2nd hand treasures, you’ll find honey, (hopefully) chilli sauces, plants, books, clothing, crafts, garden decorations, golf club toasting forks and some very special tasty Sri Lankan treats! Helen will be there from 10 – 11am to take your e-waste, tetrapaks, egg boxes, polystyrene and lids, plus Paul will be there if you’d like to have a go at playing the piano!
