📰Cambodia, New Zealand Plan Expanded Education Cooperation With Scholarships and Exchanges
— Cambodia and New Zealand are planning to deepen education cooperation through expanded scholarships, student exchanges, school partnerships and teacher training, officials said Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron met a New Zealand education delegation led by Bharat Chawla, president of RBS Intellect New Zealand, which included representatives from five universities and 17 secondary schools.
Talks focused on building stronger links between Cambodian and New Zealand institutions, including study pathways, scholarship programs, teacher capacity building and school partnerships.
Chawla said RBS Intellect, an advisory agency established in 2014, aims to support students’ education and career development while facilitating international study opportunities and institutional cooperation. Representatives from New Zealand universities and schools expressed interest in aligning partnerships with Cambodia’s human‑resource development priorities.
Chuon Naron welcomed the delegation and thanked New Zealand for its continued support, particularly through scholarships and exchange programs. He said training courses would be offered this year in public‑sector leadership, disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, sustainable food systems, productivity and governance, delivered in New Zealand or online under the Manaaki Scholarships program.
The minister also highlighted Cambodia’s ongoing education reforms, including improvements in international student assessments, teacher qualifications, graduation examinations, model‑school standards and teacher‑training programs.
As a next step, Naron instructed officials to work with New Zealand counterparts to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding on deeper cooperation. The proposed framework is expected to expand opportunities for exchanges, research, scholarships and teacher training, while strengthening institutional ties between the two countries.
